Electronic Arts has recently revealed its plan to shut down the online servers for a selection of older and less active titles starting from September. Online support for all of these games will have been discontinued by the end of this year. This is a routine practice by EA, and like always, it has created a little tension among gamers. This decision is going to impact some beloved classics.
Notable titles that will be affected by EA’s server shutdown include Battlefield Bad Company 2, Crysis 3, Dead Space 2, and Tiger Woods Pga Tour 14, among others. Players will no longer be able to enjoy the multiplayer experience on these games.
It’s important to note that certain games, such as Crysis 3, Dante’s Inferno, Dead Space 2, and Battlefield 1943, are accessible through Xbox backward compatibility. Gamers enjoying these titles on newer Xbox consoles have a limited timeframe to enjoy their online components.

Electronic Arts has acknowledged that retiring older games is a difficult choice. But it allows them to allocate resources and efforts towards maintaining and improving newer titles with a more active player base.
EA explains, “As games are replaced with newer titles, the number of players still enjoying the games that have been live for some time dwindles to a level… where it’s no longer feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping the online services for these games up and running.”
