A convoluted incident of a strong-arm robbery on a yacht in Miami made the headlines last Sunday. The incident involved rapper Quavo, among others. According to the Miami Beach Police Department, the incident took place on North River Drive. It involved a tense confrontation between a group of individuals that had rented the yacht and the captain and crew of the boat. 

Quavo, whose real name is Quavious Keyate Marshall, aged 32, was among a group of individuals that rented the yacht. When the group was informed that their rental period was about to come to an end and the yacht needed to return, they reacted with unexpected aggression which led to a volatile confrontation.

Two men, identified as Cornell Whitfield, 39, from Texas, and Anteneh Workeneh, 32, from Georgia, allegedly demanded that the rental amount be returned as the captain announced the impending closure of the rental period.

The boat captain recounted to the police that Whitfield threatened to “kill him and throw him off the boat.” Additionally, Whitfield reportedly took the captain’s wallet, which contained around $3,500, as well as his phone. The aggressor then approached a crew member threatening to kill him too unless the rental amount was returned. 

As per the crew member’s account, he went inside the yacht and brought out $5000 in cash to give to the group. The owner of the yacht as well as the police was informed shortly after.

The police did not make arrests on the spot owing to contradictory statements made by the captain and the crew member. Also, there were no cameras facing the area where the alleged incident took place. The Miami Beach Police Department will continue to investigate this matter but all individuals were released after questioning. Quavo’s representatives have not made any official statement regarding the incident.
