It doesn’t really matter whether you call them waggons or estate cars. What matters is that a reduction in worldwide demand is rapidly pushing the genre that embodies style, space, and street cred to extinction. Worse, the industry has become accustomed to replacing every single outgoing family holdall with another nondescript SUV or crossover. Central Europe is currently the final bastion of the once-coveted body design, which is generally labelled Touring, T-model, Variant, or Avant and is often outfitted with inspirational powertrains and lifestyle-oriented equipment.

The auto industry’s costly transition from gasoline and diesel engines to hybrid powertrains and electric vehicles will continue to decrease the waggon ranks, but BMW, for one, has opted to broaden its offers. The 2023 503-hp M3 Touring debuted last year, and it will be followed by the all-new 650-hp PHEV M5 Touring Competition and the even brawnier 740-hp M5 Touring Label Red in early 2025.

What’s Different In 2023?(2023 BMW M3 Competition Touring)-

BMW has unveiled the first-ever M3 Touring. It is based on the 3-Series waggon and features the same twin-turbo straight-six engine as the M3 Competition sedan, as well as the same chassis and traction enhancements. The main drawback is that it will not be available in the United States.

The M3 Touring, a first of its type, features an overbite grille and an adaptive AWD/RWD system with the M3 Competition xDrive sedan. Both have the same powerplant, which is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six mated to an eight-speed automated transmission. The fully outfitted model we drove had a sticker price of $120,000.

Even on Michelin winter tyres, our M3 Touring produces huge grip, the carbon-ceramic anchors are capable of pulling eyes out their sockets, and the optional thinly cushioned lightweight composite bucket seat ties man to machine. The M3 Touring, like the facelifted 3-series, has the newest infotainment, replete with a wide-screen digital display, jazzed-up instrument graphics, and too many additional capabilities (think M Drift Analyzer) to digest in a single session.

Although 53 cubic feet of baggage capacity with the rear bench folded is a great benefit for the next weekend vacation or trip to the DIY superstore, the M3 Touring is best utilised as the ultimate driving machine six days out of seven.

It goes like stink, handles like a gymkhana hero, exudes presence even when parked, and makes all the appropriate sounds when it’s not. According to BMW, the sprint from zero to sixty takes 3.4 seconds. The M Driver’s Package increases the peak speed to 174 mph. And from 2750 to 5500 rpm, there is a maximum torque of 479 pound-feet that can be supplied to all four wheels.
