What Is New in 2022?

There are no significant modifications to the 2022 BMW 3-series range for 2022. The list of minor upgrades consists mostly of rearranged option packages, additional standard features for certain models, and an updated roster of individual choices.

We’d go with the four-cylinder 330i because of its surprising amount of power and naturally sporty nature. All-wheel drive is available for an additional $2000. The 330e plug-in hybrid combines a turbo 2.0-liter engine with an electric motor to produce 288 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The 330e’s first impression revealed a good interplay between the gas and electric aspects, and we appreciate the new Xtraboost feature, which offers a surge of power that feels like a shot of nitrous.

Each powerplant is paired with an outstanding eight-speed automatic gearbox and rear-wheel drive as standard. For a fee, you can power all four wheels. Unfortunately, manual transmissions are no longer available. (If a stick is required, purists should wait for the all-new BMW M3.) On the 3, buyers may select between two suspension configurations: the standard arrangement or the upgrade with adaptive dampers.

Our first impressions of this G20-generation 3-series were positive. The car’s enhanced steering feel delivers more road-surface information and varying effort than its predecessor, but it still falls short of the famous early iterations of the 3. The four-cylinder BMW excelled in a comparative test against comparable sports sedans. We admired its capacity to go from calm and polished to sharp and lively. The 330i also cemented its position at the top of its class by defeating the stunning Alfa Romeo Giulia in a two-car comparison. With its outstanding six-cylinder and exceptional body control, our long-term M340i demonstrates the nameplate’s return to form.

Connectivity and infotainment-

The basic infotainment system is controlled by an 8.8-inch touchscreen, but it may alternatively be operated via a huge knob and buttons on the console, as well as voice commands. The Live Cockpit Plus feature set, which includes navigation, is included. The Live Cockpit Pro upgrade, which extends the size of the touchscreen to 10.3 inches and provides the most recent and competent generation of BMW’s iDrive system, is required for the truly nice things.

The rear-drive, plug-in hybrid model gets 28 mpg combined and has a 23-mile all-electric range. Both statistics are reduced by three for the all-wheel-drive PHEV. We tested a rear-drive 330i on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route as part of our thorough testing procedure and got 42 mpg. Similarly, we ran the same test with an all-wheel-drive M340i, which returned 33 mpg.

Interior, and Comfort-

The inside of the 3 has been renovated, with superb materials and an amazing build quality. Nothing in the 3-series seems cheap, and the controls are neatly placed. BMW also enhanced outward vision, and the standard sport seats are well-bolstered and supportive, with enough of flexibility to provide a comfortable ride. A comprehensive head-up display, programmable ambient interior lighting, heated front and rear seats, remote start, and wireless charging are among the optional features. The digital instrument cluster on the BMW is a little crowded but nonetheless appealing.

Some may find the counterclockwise sweep of the tachometer needle strange at first, but it becomes second nature soon. The 3-series has a large trunk with a power-operated lid. The gas-powered sedan has 17 cubic feet of storage capacity and can hold six carry-on baggage back there, and 17 overall with the rear seat folded. In both testing, the Mercedes-Benz C300 car contained one fewer luggage than the Alfa Romeo Giulia, which could fit five and 15, respectively. Because of the battery pack, the 330e has less trunk room (13 cubes), and we haven’t tested its carry-on capacity.

Features for Driver Assistance and Safety-

BMW offers only forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking as standard driver-assistance technologies. Other features, however, are accessible.
