THERE ARE TOO MANY PROBLEMS WITH CBC; LET'S TRY COMPREHENSIVE EDUCATION.

Cabinet Secretary for Education Prof. George Magoha

The new government has developed a suitable and timely strategic development plan for the Education sector in order to promote equitable and sustainable national growth, increase the number of decent jobs, and raise living standards.

The new administration is determined to have high per capita income, a significant degree of industrialization, a diversified export base, and a financial sector that is integrated with the global financial system. This determination is fueled by UNDP data, which shows that many countries, including Japan, Finland, Sweden, Canada, Singapore, Brazil, China, and South Korea, have experienced rapid economic growth as a result of the implementation of favorable strategic plans in the education sector.

These nations developed their education strategies and long-term development plans based on thorough analyses of the state of their respective educational systems.

It was discovered that education increased people's creativity, productivity, and entrepreneurship while also fostering technological advancements.

The Constitution's Article 53.1(b) guarantees every child the right to a Basic Education that is both free and required.

Every kid is entitled to a basic education of the highest caliber, which must be provided by the government.

More specifically, Section 39(c) of the Basic Education Act specifies that discrimination against and obstruction of access to a quality education for children in marginalized, vulnerable, or disadvantaged groups are prohibited.

Competence Based Education (CBC) is being administered in a discriminatory manner that contravenes both the Basic Education Act and the Constitution. This is due to the fact that most households cannot afford the cost of sending a child to School under CBC.

Additionally, although most parents struggle to pay for their children's educational assistance, educators have limited access to teaching resources. Additionally, teachers have not received adequate training to manage CBC courses and deliver lectures successfully.

Children from wealthy homes are the target audience for the new curriculum since they have easy access to educational resources.

Sadly, the ministry is misleading the public by claiming that the government has provided textbooks for every subject to all primary schools, that ICT equipment has been provided to all schools, that all schools are equipped with two laptops, a projector, an external server, and tablets, and that more than 85% of schools are connected to the national electricity grid.

The task force on the review of the education system should take into account introducing holistic education, a concept that has been adopted by many countries, in order to identify and enhance skills, competencies, and encourage critical-thinking skills in solving real-world problems as well as equip learners with life skills that will be useful in the future.

The areas that CBC is aiming to address are perfectly covered by holistic education, which is less expensive, less time-consuming, and more effective.
