Planning a memorable Party for your little one in the Big Apple? Look no further as we dive into an exciting world of enchanting kids’ party themes that are sure to captivate young hearts and create unforgettable moments. NYC is a vibrant city filled with possibility, so why should your kid’s party be any different?

There are LOADS of themes out there, so how do you go about finding the right one? Honestly, when my kids were old enough to give input, I actually just asked them what they wanted! I mean, if it’s totally weird, then scrap it and take ownership, but if it’s doable, then the kids will love being able to help plan their own party. Also, if it’s just too hard to find decor for some kind of obscure theme and it will mean too much DIY decor on your end, then rather stick to something a bit more well known – so maybe no chameleon themes, right? And some themes have been done way too much, so let’s put a NYC spin on some favorites.

So, let’s dive into what we find to be New York’s Best Party Themes for Kids.

City Streets Party

So, maybe everyone is a bit tired of going to a Disney Cars themed party. Why not go broader with a City Streets themed party that allows you to be more creative? Include all kinds of different vehicles, like trucks, cars, motorbikes. Anything on wheels! Checkered flag backdrops and themed plates and cups are not hard to come by, and you can mix it up with some awesome tire and various types of car balloons from Etsy. I mean, we live in New York, right, so even including yellow taxis might be fun!

New York City Party

If you don’t live in the city, then having a NYC themed party, with all the staple NYC foods and sights will be pretty awesome. Think hotdogs, candied nuts and chocolate covered pretzels as seen by various street food vendors on the sidewalk. And kids love that kind of food – and we can’t forget black and white cookies, bagels or pizza. The options are endless.

Let the kids have their own subway performance. Encourage the kids to be as showy or silly as possible. Have the other kids – or parents, if they’re there – vote on the best performance. Put out a cup and have people toss sweets into it as tips.

Under The Sea Meets SeaGlass Carousel

This relatively new feature is a mesmerizing experience for kids and parents alike. This coral-like pavilion, a unique version of the classic carnival carousel, allows children to ride any kind of fish they want and they rotate on a turntable, instead of around a pole, and the sizes and shapes and colors of the other sea creatures makes it a somewhat ethereal experience. So, instead of Mermaids, why not do a SeaGlass theme, with shades of aquamarine, pink and coral and various kinds of fish as your staple decorations? You can close all the curtains and add blue lights for a cool underwater-at-night feel. Check out Etsy for some inspiration.

Chinatown

Because if it’s going to be chaotic, why not do it at home, where you can keep an eye? This city within a city makes for a delicious and exciting few days out – because you can’t do it all in one day. If your kids are fascinated by Asian culture and enjoy a little dim sum, then why not bring Chinatown home? Mommy Poppins has a great guide on things to do and eat in Chinatown with kids, so gain some inspiration from her in deciding what delicious treats to give your kids at their party. Get an ice cream cake from the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory (they have stores in Flushing and the Lower East Side too) or dumplings from Vanessa’s Dumplings – they cater! And they have locations in the city, Queens and Brooklyn.

Fall Themed Party

Who doesn’t love Central Park in the fall? The colors are glorious and everything feels cozy when you hold a mug of hot cocoa in your hands. Plus fall themed party decor for kids is adorable. You can get creative with warm colors and if you have a big garden with lots of trees, you can have it outside. If your child’s birthday is not in the fall, that’s okay – the decor will add the vibe! Think harvest table for the food, but with some kid favorite snacks too. Some other ideas can be having a caramel apply bar, where the kids dip their apples into homemade caramel sauce and add toppings like nuts and candy pieces or mini marshmallows or covering Oreo cookies with orange frosting for a cute and tasty fall treat. Get faux fall leaves, if you need them, from Amazon.

Movies in the Park

Bryant Park hosts ‘movies in the park’ every Monday and Tuesday. Folks cozy up on the lawn with blankets and there are food vendors scattered about. Grab some fairy lights to hang around the garden to give that city lights vibe, use a few different tables to host different types of snacks – if you’re feeling creative you can decorate the tables according to their type of cuisine and perhaps parents can act as food truck workers. This is great if your child’s birthday is in summer, but, you know, if it’s not raining, a little chill just means more hot cocoa. Make sure there’s a table for that too!

So, there you have it. The NYC spin on some party themes for kids. We hope you feel inspired to think about incorporating some more of this great city into your themed parties. Let us know in the comment which of our New York’s Best Party Themes for Kids you liked most and will be trying!

What are good birthday party ideas for 11 year olds?

Limbo, Cupcake Wars, Nerf War, Tie-Dye and Truth or Dare are some fun ways those who are not little kids but not quite teenagers can have some fun! Here are some ideas for dares: do a free style rap for a minute, talk in a British accent until your next turn, act like a chicken until your next turn or do 20 push ups.
