In response to the wave of protests led by women that were sparked by art of zoo outrage over the death of Mahsa Amini after the Islamic Republic’s morality police detained her, Iran increased pressure on celebrities and journalists on Thursday.

The protests have the support of athletes, musicians, actors, and filmmakers. And many took it as a sign when the national football team stayed in their black tracksuits during the anthems playing before a Vienna match against Senegal.

According to the ISNA news agency, Tehran provincial governor Mohsen Mansouri said, “We will take action against the celebrities who have fanned the flames of the riots.”

Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, the head of Iran’s judiciary, claimed that “those who became famous thanks to supporting from the system have joined the enemy when times are hard.”

But the alerts followed nearly two weeks of nationwide protests in Iran and a deadly crackdown that, according to human rights organization Amnesty International, was characterized by “ruthless violence by security forces.” Other than this trending topic, art of zoo is also a top trend on social media these days.

22-year-old Kurdish Woman

Demonstration

In one demonstration, women gathered outside the Iranian embassy in Kabul.
