SpaceX's Super Starship Rocket Explodes Mid-Air After Successful Test Launch

SpaceX's Starship Explodes Before Entering the Orbit

SpaceX's super starship Rocket has exploded at mid-air after lifting off from its base before entering orbit in what many believe to be a successful launch.

The spaceship launch took place by 9:28 a.m. ET on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at the coastal region of Southern Texas, USA. The event was witnessed live by millions of spectators around the world.

SpaceX's Spaceship is the largest, most capable, and most powerful rocket ever developed, built, and launched. It is also the first fully integrated starship of that capacity ever built. It has 33 engines and the capacity to fulfil SpaceX's interplanetary travel dreams. Thursday launch was the first test.

The spacecraft's rocket booster was designed to separate from the starship and dispense most of its fuel at about two minutes after takeoff in order to lessen the heavy weight of the complex system
After booster separation, the main rocket was to propel itself into orbit, which should have taken approximately six minutes. However, the rocket took a few loop and exploded at four minutes after takeoff, at a distance of 24 miles above sea level and over the Gulf of Mexico. The launch pad was not damaged by the explosion thereby giving a great advantage to the company.

Reactions to the SpaceX's Spaceship Explosion

Despite the explosion of the spaceship, the launch is celebrated as a success by both SpaceX and its founder, Elon Musk, as well as NASA and other rocket lovers around the world. The spaceship is the largest and most powerful spacecraft with a lot of unique designs. Thursday event is seeing as a step forward toward building a better model that will meet launch success and expectations.

Responding to the explosion, Elon Musk, the companies founder who was also at the SpaceX control room tweeted to celebrate the lesson learned by the company which he believes will help the team perform better in next liftoff.

"Congrats @SpaceX team on an exciting test launch of Starship! Learned a lot for next test launch in a few months," Musk Tweeted.

NASA administrator, Bill Nelson, in his response to the Starship explosion also congratulated SpaceX for the successful test launch and quoted that anything with great reward comes with great risks.

"on Starship’s first integrated flight test! Every great achievement throughout history has demanded some level of calculated risk, because with great risk comes great reward. Looking forward to all that SpaceX learns, to the next flight test—and beyond,' Bill Nelson said via a tweet.

The launch was supposed to take place a few days ago but postponed due to some technical errors. Prior to Thursday, the company in one of its post following the previous postponement, tweeted, "With a test such as this, success is measured by how much we can learn, which will inform and improve the probability of success in the future as SpaceX rapidly advances development of Starship".

Following the Thursday explosion, SpaceX again tweeted to express its excitement on the success of the event and the company's readiness to continue with the same program.

“As if the flight test was not exciting enough, Starship experienced a rapid unscheduled disassembly before stage separation. Teams will continue to review data and work toward our next flight test. With a test like this, success comes from what we learn, and today’s test will help us improve Starship’s reliability as SpaceX seeks to make life multi-planetary. Congratulations to the entire SpaceX team on an exciting first integrated flight test of Starship!” The company tweeted on Thursday evening.

About SpaceX and Its Successful Space Programs

The Space Exploration Technologies Exploration (SpaceX) is the most successful privately owned rockets and spacecraft manufacturer in the world. It currently designs, manufactures and launches the world’s most advanced rockets and spacecrafts.

The company has succeeded and implemented several space exploration programs including the launching of thousands of satellite into space for its subsidiary company, Starlink, as well as other affiliate organizations like NASA.

Earlier this month, the company launched 21 Starlink satellites to orbit using Falcon 9 rocket systems. It was the first time any company in the world would do that within a period of 20 minutes.

Besides satellite and usual rockets and spacecraft systems, SpaceX is the first company to develop a cheap and reusable rocket engine which gives the company a unique reverence.

The company's main mission is to land human on Mars and probably create human colony on the red planet, a dream drafted by its founder, Elon Musk.

SpaceX is already in several pacts with NASA, one of which is to help NASA land humans on the moon by 2025. The Spaceship project is just one of the numerous designs by the company and this successful Thursday lift is a milestone to the success of its dreams in space travels and building of more complex rocket and spacecraft systems.
