OpenAI Trains Artificial Intelligence to Replace Junior Coders, Reports Reveal

AI to Replace Entry-level Programmers

OpenAI, the company developing ChatGPT, has allegedly recruited over a thousand remote coders and experts from the America and Europe to create and train an AI that could potentially replace junior programmers in the workplace. This new technology would supposedly be able to autonomously undertake programming responsibilities without human supervision.

According to a report by Semafor, out of the 1000 contractors hired by OpenAI, 40% are programmers who aim at creating OpenAI's models that can learn software engineering tasks. This is possible by the use of OpenAI's Codex Product, designed to translate natural language into code. Codex is already used in GitHub to power "Copilot" which enable codes autocomplete feature on the platform.

The other 60% of the contractors are working on data "labeling". Data labeling or data annotation is the process of identifying objects in raw data, such as image, video, or text, and tagging them with labels that can help train artificial intelligence to work independently.

The report added that OpenAI is building a dataset on Github that include both lines of codes and human explanations in natural language. The programmers are working to convert GitHub Copilot function into a form of autopilot to reduce some coding work through autocomplete codes.

OpenAI's commitment in its current pursuit of artificial intelligence means that in the near future, ChatGPT may be able to carryout several tasks that would replace most entry-level employees in both tech companies and beyond.

Besides coding, most tech analysts believe that in a short while, natural language, especially English, may become a globally recognized programming language. In other words, once AI fully understands natural language, one may not need to know programming languages before implementing codes that computer can obey.

Businesses Shifting Toward AI Over Junior Coders

The move by OpenAI is just a case of the many cases. Businesses across the world are turning to Artificial Intelligence (AI) to speed up the process of coding to reduce costs. A recent report by the World Economic Forum found that AI is increasingly being used to Replace Junior Coders, with companies investing heavily in the technology to automate mundane coding tasks.

The report found that AI is already being used to automate coding processes such as debugging and refactoring, which are often time-consuming and tedious for junior coders. AI-powered tools are able to quickly identify errors and suggest the best solutions, which makes them a more cost-effective option for businesses.

AI-powered coding tools can be used to generate code from scratch, meaning that businesses can get a project done in a fraction of the time it would take a human coder. This could lead to a decrease in the need for junior coders as businesses increasingly rely on AI-powered tools for basic coding tasks.

With this development, the future AI tools will autocomplete codes just like a sentence autocomplete keyboard function would do, and human coders would only need to take on more complex tasks.

The development of an AI system that replaces junior level coders may sound like a bad news, but it is actually a step forward toward enhancing human-machine relationship through understandable conversations.

The major concern about AI taking out humans from their tasks is the ethical aspect. While human conscience enable them to carry on tasks with emotions and ethical concerns, machines do not understand ethical values and that poses a serious concern over ongoing AI revolution.
