AI to Replace Entry-level Programmers
According to a report by Semafor, out of the 1000 contractors hired by OpenAI, 40% are programmers who aim at creating OpenAI's models that can learn software engineering tasks. This is possible by the use of OpenAI's Codex Product, designed to translate natural language into code. Codex is already used in GitHub to power "Copilot" which enable codes autocomplete feature on the platform.
The other 60% of the contractors are working on data "labeling". Data labeling or data annotation is the process of identifying objects in raw data, such as image, video, or text, and tagging them with labels that can help train artificial intelligence to work independently.
The report added that OpenAI is building a dataset on Github that include both lines of codes and human explanations in natural language. The programmers are working to convert GitHub Copilot function into a form of autopilot to reduce some coding work through autocomplete codes.
OpenAI's commitment in its current pursuit of artificial intelligence means that in the near future, ChatGPT may be able to carryout several tasks that would replace most entry-level employees in both tech companies and beyond.
Besides coding, most tech analysts believe that in a short while, natural language, especially English, may become a globally recognized programming language. In other words, once AI fully understands natural language, one may not need to know programming languages before implementing codes that computer can obey.
