Akwa Ibom Celebrates World Record-Breaking Christmas Carol Concert Tonight
The Akwa Ibom Carol Festival, held annually in Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria, is set to take place tonight, Friday, December 16, 2022, by 6 pm local time (17:00 GMT). The venue is Ibom Hall Arena, Ibrahim Babangida (IBB) Avenue, Uyo.
This year’s event is expected to draw a large number of people from across the world to the state’s capital, Uyo. The expected number of people in the event is not yet known as at the time of this report, however, our team learned that the attendants will be announced by Arthur Andersen, a renounced international firm at the commencement of the event. Meanwhile, in 2021, the Ibom Christmas gathering had over 25, 000 people in attendance, and the number is expected to double this year.

The Akwa Ibom Carol Festival formerly “Ibom 999 Carol” became popular after it was certified as the largest Christmas gathering in the world by the Guinness Book of Records on December 13, 2014.
The maiden event was introduced under the leadership of Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, the former governor of the state. Since then, the event has continued to take place annually, attracting prominent ministers, singers, artists, politicians, and people from all works of life, around the world; including the likes of Don Moen, Donnie McClurkin, T. D. Jakes, Frank Edward, Mercy Chinwo, among others.
This year’s event, which is held in the city of Uyo, is organized by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and is sponsored by the Akwa Ibom government. The festival features carol singing by the 9999 Mass choir and other groups, traditional dancing, fireworks, and many more. The concert also includes a special recognition ceremony for those who have made significant contributions to the state and its people.

Those expected at the event include the State Governor, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, ministers, singers and top religious and political officials from different parts of the world. Artistes to minister in the event tonight include gospel singers Hezekiah Walker, Eben, Sinach, Ronke Adesokan, City Dennis, Sonnie Badu, Buchi, and Nathaniel Bassey who have already arrived in the state.
