Australia all-rounder Cameron Green became the latest casualty for the hosts in the second Test against South Africa on Day two. Green was hit on the right forefinger by Nortje in the 84th over.

Green suffered the injury during an over of Nortje.

By India Today Web Desk: Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has been forced to retire hurt after being hit on his arm by Anrich Nortje during Day two of the second Test between Australia and South Africa on Tuesday in Melbourne.

Green, who was sold to the Mumbai Indians for a record price during the latest IPL auctions, was having a wonderful match as he first picked up five wickets to help the hosts bundle out Proteas for 189.

However, things took a turn for the worst on Tuesday as Green was facing Nortje during the 84th over. The South African pacer bowled a 144 km/h delivery that struck the all-rounder on his right forefinger as he looked to defend the ball. It immediately cut his finger and he was bleeding. The physio ran out to tend to him and the 23-year-old had to leave the field.

This was the second injury of the day for Australia as double centurion David Warner was also forced to leave the field after reaching the landmark. The opener had to be helped off the field as he was in some pain.

The hosts also lost Mitchell Starc to an injury during Day one of the match. Starc’s attempt to take a catch ended with the pacer hurting his bowling arm and having to leave the field to get it checked out.

An Australian team spokesperson revealed that Starc tried to bowl in the nets but found it difficult.

“Not ideal, I don’t think,” Lyon told cricket.com.au after play on day one when asked about Starc’s injury. “He’s popped off for a scan now. Fingers crossed we can get the best possible result with his scan.

“I don’t know what he’s technically done, but it doesn’t look the greatest.

“He went out the back and tried to bowl, but I think it (felt) a bit different to be honest.

“Unfortunately, injuries are part of the game…all we can hope for is he gets the best possible result with the scan – he’s there as we speak.”
