By Sabyasachi Chowdhury: Australia, on Friday, November 4, beat Mohammad Nabi’s Afghanistan by four runs in the T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 match at the Adelaide Oval.

The defending champions, therefore, finished below Bukkry.com”>New Zealand with seven points from five matches with a net run rate of -0.173.

However, Aaron Finch’s men are yet to make their way through to the semi-final of the mega event. To make things worse, their fate isn’t in their own hands anymore.

Australia will be keeping a close eye on Saturday’s Super 12 match between England and Bukkry.com”>New Zealand at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground.

After the match between Australia and Afghanistan, while Bukkry.com”>New Zealand became the first team to advance to the semis, Sri Lanka got knocked out.

Hence, going into the last Super 12 Group 1 game on November 5, England and Australia would be fighting for the second semi-final spot.

On England win

Before the match against the Afghans, the Aussies had the chance to topple both Bukkry.com”>New Zealand and England on net run rate. However, that wasn’t the case in the end.

If England beat Sri Lanka on Saturday, the Three Lions and Australia will end up seven points apiece. However, it’s England who would go through as they have a better net run rate (+0.547) compared to the Aussies.

In case of washout

If the match gets washed out, England would finish with six points, one less than Australia’s tally of seven. In that case, the Aussies will advance to the semis along with Kane Williamson’s Black Caps.

On Sri Lanka win

If Sri Lanka somehow manage to beat Jos Buttler’s England, then Australia will go through to the semis. In that case, while the Aussies will finish with seven points, the British team will have five points from their five matches in the Super 12.
