By India Today Web Desk: England white-ball captain Jos Buttler said that he will play “best available team” against Ireland in their T20 World Cup match as “anything can happen and individuals can win a game on their own”.

England kick started their T20 World Cup campaign on a positive note, winning their opening match by five wickets against Afghanistan in Perth. Ahead of their second match, Buttler is wary of Ireland, who stunned West Indies in the first round of the competition before losing their Super 12 opener to Sri Lanka.

“Every game is really tough in this T20 World Cup,” Buttler said. “One-off games against anyone, anything can happen and individuals can win a game on their own. It is going to be a really tough match.

“Anytime you take things for granted or you don’t respect the opposition, it is when you can get hurt. I think in T20 cricket especially, there’s the one format where it’s as level a playing field as any.”

Buttler further hinted that Mark Wood could be rotated with two matches in three days. The likes of David Willey, Chris Jordan or Tymal Mills would come in if Wood or Chris Woakes were rested.

“With weather around you might try and rest someone and then have a game washed out. It is really important to take every game in isolation and play your best available team for that day and those conditions,” the England captain said.

England will play Ireland at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on October 26. The weather in Melbourne was hard to predict this week as showers are expected come Wednesday.

Buttler added that England are ready to adapt if rain interrupts the match, which could lead to either a curtailed match or, in the worst scenario, being abandoned.

“You have a little idea of things you might do if those kinds of things happen. But again, don’t want to get too sort of preoccupied with what-ifs. When a situation arises, let’s try and adapt as fast as we can, try and make quick decisions that we feel is in the best interest,” Buttler said.
