Google may be testing a Discover Feed on desktop homepage with limited Indian users

Google Discover feed is available on Android mobile devices. The tech giant is now reportedly testing the integration of a Discover Feed on its Desktop Homepage. Alongside Google’s conventional search box, the Discover Feed features suggested content. The company introduced the Discover Feed to its homepage on mobile devices in the US back in 2018.

According to a report by Verge, the Discover feed on Google’s homepage on desktops includes news headlines, weather forecasts, sports scores, and stock updates for three different companies. In a statement, Lara Levin, a spokesperson for Google, has also verified this change, the report adds. Levin also mentioned that Google is currently conducting this test with limited users in India.

On Android, the Discover feed is displayed under the search box in Google’s mobile apps. The feed also appears on the left-most pane of the Home screens on some Android devices. Similar to its Android counterpart, the desktop version of the Google Discover Feed also appears below the search bar.

As google.com continues to remain the most frequently visited website globally, any changes to it will be significant for users. We at TOI-Gadgets Now also checked for the Discover Feed on Google’s desktop homepage, but couldn’t see the change. This suggests that the company is testing the feature with only a limited number of users.

As per the report, Google’s experimental interface includes a resemblance to what Microsoft provides on its Bing search engine. Bing feed also includes an extensive array of news articles and additional information.

Google’s previous experiments with homepage
Google has also introduced new changes to its desktop homepage in the past. In 2022, 9to5Google reported about the company trials involving a series of widget-style cards displayed on the desktop homepage.

These cards featured a similar blend of news articles, weather predictions and stock data. However, the extent of the feature’s deployment remains uncertain and is yet to become accessible in India.
