Chrome Tab Groups are a game changer since it has debuted on the web browser. The feature comes in handy by allowing users to organise the open tabs and improve the overall browsing experience. However, there’s one vital missing piece to the puzzle – saving Tab Groups for later. While an official feature remains elusive, a clever workaround can help you permanently preserve your Tab Groups.

Unfortunately, the ability to save Tab Groups has been conspicuously absent. Google did promise this feature and has started testing it in beta versions but it’s yet to materialise.

The good news is that there’s a workaround using Chrome Flags, despite it not being an official solution.

Here’s how to enable the Tab Groups Save feature on your desktop:

Access Chrome Flags: In your Chrome browser, type “chrome://flags/#tab-groups-save” in the address bar and press Enter.

Activate the Feature: Locate “Tab Groups Save” and change its status to “Enabled.”

Restart Chrome: After toggling the feature, restart your browser to apply the changes.

A word of caution: Chrome Flags can occasionally destabilise your browser, as they enable experimental features. While this particular flag is relatively safe, proceed with caution when tweaking your browser settings.

Once you’ve restarted Chrome with the feature enabled, you’ll notice a “Save group” toggle within your Tab Groups. Activate it, and voila! Your Tab Group is permanently saved. When you close a saved group, it will appear in your Bookmarks Bar, preserving its color and title. Click on it in the bar to instantly restore your curated tabs.
