Gwen Stefani Performed In A Chic Checkered Top And Matching Pants For Hometown Concert

Gwen Stefani has been known for her funky fashion sense since the beginning of her career, and she's consistently been sticking to it decades later.

Recently, the 53-year-old posted a fun short clip of herself on Instagram in a trendy checkered crop top that showcased her toned abs and matching leggings for her hometown show in Anaheim. She paired her cool-girl look with sparkly platform boots that gave her the ultimate pop-icon appearance.

In the post captioned, "ANAHEIM!! Thank u for such an incredible hometown show. We've built decades of love + memories together, and getting the opportunity to share that with u at @hondacenter for the 9th time was nothing short of a dream thank u to @hondacenter, the dancers, all of the crew + everyone who made this happen gx," the singer can be seen interacting with her fans during her performances.

The 'Hollaback Back' star looked chic as ever in her signature blonde ponytail and red lip, possibly from her own beauty line, GXVE.

At one point she brought a young girl from the audience onto the stage and made her dreams come true by posing for a cute photo together.

Fans were in awe of her style and her performance as they dropped tons of comments praising the singer.

"You need to play the Super Bowl already," one fan wrote. With football season being here, it would truly be exciting to find out Gwen will be performing!

Another fan commented, "You put on the BEST SHOW!! Welcome home Gwen Anaheim Loves You."

And in a surprising twist, the mother of the young girl brought on stage also commented her experience from that night. "That's my daughter on stage!! You made her dream come true last night!! We love you!!"

I Braved The Skirt Over Pants Trend This Week

The last time I wore a skirt over pants I was in elementary school, when I rocked a skort over leggings and bootcut jeans under an Old Navy skirt (also probably at the same time as a tank top over a long-sleeve). Ever since then, though, the style has become socially verboten. 

Until recently, the most relevant fan of the look was Juno MacGuff, the plucky pregnant teen from Diablo Cody's 2007 film Juno, who wore it as makeshift maternity wear. But, like all trends, pants once again began appearing under skirts and dresses. 

Collina Strada has been one of the most vocal proponents of the trend, consistently sending it down the runway since at least spring 2022. Hillary Taymour, the brand's creative director, has personally rocked the look, taking her post-show bow at this past New York Fashion Week in a multicolored lace slip skirt over a pair of plaid pants. Chopova Lowena, Sandy Liang, and Palomo Spain also offered their version of the controversial style this season, only furthering its legitimacy. 

It's not just the fashion world that's taken a pro stance in the return of the layered bottoms. Celebrities are also giving it a go. A$AP Rocky arrived on the 2023 Met Gala red carpet in a kilt over jeans, and in July Shakira rocked a monochromatic version at the Fendi couture show.

So, I decided to test drive the trend for myself. I dedicated three days this week to wearing pants under my skirts and dresses. See how it went below.
