25 Best Winter Boots For Women, According To Online Reviews

The perfect pair

Searching for a great pair of winter boots can be a time-consuming quest. Unlike shopping for other winter essentials, such as cozy pajamas, loungewear, and slippers, boots must be both stylish and functional. That's not always easy to accomplish. The most technical winter boots can be cumbersome and uncomfy, and the cutest ones often break down at the slightest touch of rain and snow. But it's not impossible to find the perfect pair of winter boots for women—as long as you know where to look.

When shopping for winter boots, you'll want to consider a few things: warmth, traction, weight, design, and whether or not the shoe is waterproof. Depending on where you want to wear your boots—whether that's a hiking trail or the office—you can choose a style that makes the most sense. Some of them double as the best walking shoes for women, but keep in mind that as the weather gets colder, you'll want to pair them with warm socks—maybe even wool socks.

How we chose the best winter boots

We scoured online reviews to find the best winter boots for women that will serve their purpose for years. Each of these boots has an average rating of four stars or higher on Amazon, as well as more than 500 reviews. Non-Amazon boots come highly reviewed from a range of sources, and several on this list have reached icon status due to their classic styles, craftsmanship, and durability. You also don't have to wait until winter to wear them, even if they're technically snow boots. Most are perfect for your various fall activities—especially when paired with a cute new fall sweater. Dr. Martens Women's Shriver Hi Fashion Boots

Best for: Everyday comfort

It's no surprise that one of the top-rated fall and winter boots for women on Amazon is also one of the most popular boots of all time. Dr. Martens' lace-up combat boots have an average 4.8-star rating from more than 2,000 reviewers. They offer a 1.25-inch platform to separate your feet from the elements and give you extra height. The boots are so comfortable and easy to style that multiple reviewers report wearing them all the time. "I wear these to work every day," writes Amazon reviewer Danielle. "It's been six months and they're still super comfortable. I work in a bakery, so I'm constantly on my feet and covered in flour; these come clean super easy and are holding up great." FYI, here's what your favorite shoes say about your personality.

These Go-To Women's Blazers Make Dressing For Work Easier

No matter the time of year, blazers are fundamental building blocks to developing a well-rounded wardrobe. Work, weekend, and even a night out, there is no situation where blazers can't be worn and styled appropriately. To this end, we tapped eight fashion experts to share their personal favorites, from tailored herringbone fits ideal for fall to oversized linen styles that will keep you stylish on the hottest summer days. Keep reading for the ins and outs of what makes a blazer a closet staple and the ones that will transcend the seasons.

    Longline linen

Open Edit Oversize Linen Blend Blazer

According to Bertille Noiret, a stylist based in New York City, a linen blazer is an essential piece for summer nights. This option from Open Edit checks all the boxes. "I like that this comes in a variety of colors, is budget-friendly, and is single-breasted for a simple but efficient look," she says. "I would recommend rolling up the sleeves for a less serious feel." Made from a lightweight blend of linen and viscose with a lining, this jacket is ideal for warmer months and transitional dressing. Wear with the matching wide-leg trousers for a full suit or mix and match with other separates in your closet.

    Vintage-inspired leather

Madewell The Larsen Blazer in Leather

Christina Holevas, the New York City tastemaker behind the fashion newsletter Habiter, suggests incorporating a leather blazer into your closet rotation. "A leather blazer feels so perfectly '90s to me," she says. Design details such as the slightly oversized fit, two-button closure and front pockets are a nod to the decade synonymous with sleek, minimalist style, while a lining adds extra comfort. The leather sourced for this jacket is from a tannery that received a gold rating from the Leather Working Group, an organization that promotes sustainable practices in leather production. "I recommend styling with a black slip dress and oval sunglasses," Holevas says.

    Boxy cropped style

    Free People Tailored Heritage Blazer

"Cropped, wool blazers will be seen a lot this fall and winter," predicts Britt Theodora, a New York City-based stylist. This Free People version is available in both textured gray and blue tweed, lending a vintage-inspired feel, thanks to its boxy, strong-shouldered shape and double-breasted cut that is surprisingly easy to style. She notes it's a great option to pair with high-waisted trousers, denim and skirts. When it comes to choosing an under layer, Theodora suggests wearing the blazer, which is lined with viscose, over a silky top to create dimension.

    Classic black

    Toteme Oversize Double Breasted Blazer

Experts we spoke to recommend Totême's blazer in Black, thanks to its timeless style and versatility. "I like the casual look of it and the softness of the shoulders," says Noiret. "You can transition from the office to your dinner party by just adding the right lipstick." Theodora also highlights the double-breasted design of this tailored jacket, noting the flattering cinched waist, which she says adds an edge of femininity. Theodora suggests styling the piece, which is made from a blend of recycled polyester and wool with a satin lining, as is, buttoned without a shirt underneath, or pairing with a simple silk skirt, tights and ballet flats for an easy, go-to fall look.

    Faux leather

    Mango Leather Effect Jacket

Some of the most important factors to consider when shopping for blazers, according to New York City-based stylist Jared Depreist Gilbert, are construction, affordability and an extensive size range. This faux leather blazer from Mango hits all the marks. Made from recycled polyester, the leather-like fabrication with a polyester lining has a clean, modern feel. Constructed with a single-button closure and fashioned with a lapel collar, the crisp tailoring and structured silhouette can be paired with soft T-shirts and denim, floaty dresses, and suiting for an easy topper that instantly transforms a look.

    Wool checked pattern

& Other Stories Fitted Checked Blazer

"Incorporating a checked blazer into your fall wardrobe" is "an essential addition," explains Amarsana Gendunova, a fashion stylist who lives between New York, Miami and Paris. "Pair it with a refined pair of blue denim jeans and a striped button-down shirt for a tasteful mix of patterns," she says. This pick from & Other Stories has a slightly oversized fit, though it still offers definition at the waist and gets a bit of structure from shoulder pads. Another note: Always check the composition when shopping online. This blazer is made from 70% wool (which has been certified by the Responsible Wool Standard), giving weight to its durability and warmth, and it is lined with polyester and rayon.

    Tailored cotton

    Sandro Alicia Tailored Blazer

    $565 at Saks Fifth Avenue

Gendunova leans on Sandro's tailored blazer in cotton for summer dressing and vacations. "I highly recommend going for a cotton or linen mix option over a 100% viscose one" from the brand, she says, in part thanks to the material's breathability. Featuring a tailored collar, a darted waist, single-button closure, a viscose lining and a fresh white colorway, it can be paired with any summer dress, "making it the perfect blazer to throw over your shoulders for a dinner date during a vacation trip," Gendunova says.

    Sustainable, single-button style

Another Tomorrow Single Button Blazer Jacket

    $1,090 at Another Tomorrow

Depreist Gilbert recommends investing in a blazer with great garment construction and a high-end feel. "Another Tomorrow uses great fabrications that give off a luxury appearance," he explains. "I love the fact that this blazer is made of 100% superfine, ethical, merino wool," (the brand describes where the wool is sourced from and how it's produced on its website). It has a cupro lining, a material sourced from cotton waste. Available in four colorways, Depreist Gilbert suggests this tomato red blazer for a pop of color, an option he styled on his client, actress Luna Lauren Velez, while promoting the film "Spider Man: Across the Spider-Verse."

    Lapelless look

    Ganni Drapey Melange Fitted Blazer

Mariela Ortega, a Miami-based fashion stylist, recommends Ganni's lapelless blazer for an updated take on the classic jacket. "The perfect balance between formal and informal, this lapelless blazer gives room to play with the layer both over and under," she says. "Plus, it comes with an integrated cinched waist that enhances every body type." The draped silhouette, which has become one of Ortega's favorite pieces for styling, is made from a blend of viscose, recycled polyester and elastane with a light-colored lining. "It's a new staple of the brand," Ortega says, adding that it's "Very playful and very versatile, very Ganni."

    Bold and oversized

Acne Studios Oversized Recycled Woven Blazer

Ortega also vouches for an oversized blazer, a fundamental piece for fall, in her opinion. "This particular color is a statement in itself," she says, "and it will make you carry summer with you the rest of the year." The bold green hue is sure to make a statement, but for those who are color shy, the padded-shoulder style also comes in black. "The whole suit option is of course the go-to idea, but I am becoming a big blazer-over-dress fan lately and a good cashmere sweater wrapped around the waist is the perfect accessory to tackle both form and function," she explains. It's made from a blend of recycled polyester and wool, with a lining made from viscose.

    Transitional piece

Camilla and Marc Cicely Tailored Blazer

    $550 at Camilla and Marc

    $800 Save $250

Los Angeles-based stylist and creative director Michaela Dosamantes was first introduced to the Australian brand Camilla and Marc upon moving to the city. This relaxed-fit, fully lined crepe blazer quickly became one of her wardrobe staples for in-between season dressing. "When you live in a city with such transitional weather, it's great to have something that is not too hot during the day and covers just enough at night," she notes. Dosamantes also highlights that these qualities make it a great choice for travel.

    Pinstriped pick

Saint Laurent Pinstripe Single-Breasted Blazer Jacket

When it comes to choosing a blazer with lasting power, Dosamantes recommends a pinstriped option from Saint Laurent. "My favorite collection for 2023 is definitely Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello," she says. "The shoulders, the cut [and] the fabric are perfect." Peak lapels and sharp-shouldered tailoring of this design give definition to the figure and have a retro-inspired feel that makes it a piece that will withstand the years. Dosamantes owns a similar vintage YSL pinstripe blazer with a matching pencil skirt that she says has become one of the jewels of her own wardrobe. "I love the pinstripe because it is so versatile and easy to dress up or down, pair over a dress or with jeans," she says. For a lower-price pick with bold buttons, try this J.Crew style.

    Herringbone topper

    Ralph Lauren Herringbone Tweed Blazer

    $255 at Ralph Lauren

    $345 Save $90

New York-based fashion editor and stylist Savannah White suggests a classic herringbone blazer for fall and winter styling. "I love the texture and detailing of the herringbone, which gives such a classic feel." The menswear-inspired piece features waist darts, princess seams, a full lining and a clean silhouette, with complementary hornlike buttons. "I purchased mine in a size up, as I prefer the oversized fit and room for layering chunkier sweaters," she adds.

    Tuxedo look

    Raey Exaggerated Recycled Wool-Blend Blazer

Holevas recommends the exaggerated construction of this Raey blazer as a must-have in her opinion. "This blazer is so big that it can almost double as a piece of outerwear," Holevas explains. "It would look great layered over a cozy sweater in the winter time and I love the tuxedo-style lapel." The self-tie belt adds another design feature that lends a nipped-waist feel to the oversized silhouette. This cotton- and viscose-lined blazer is a great option for evening as well, especially in the deep navy, thanks to the contrasting tuxedo collar that brings a polished edge.

    Denim version

According to White, experimenting with unique blazer fabrics and textures can produce stylish results. "I've been really into the denim on denim look recently and I love this Simkhai blazer," White says. "The darker wash still keeps it sharp, but the denim allows for an ease as well." The precise shoulder pads, nipped waist and longline silhouette also allow for styling versatility that can be dressed up or down, even with a traditionally casual material like denim (there's also a viscose lining for added comfort). Another highlight: this blazer transitions well through the seasons, White says.
