Selena Gomez received a harsh reprimand from her fans on Instagram when she shared a photo of herself wearing a Balenciaga top, which incited outrage among her admirers given the controversy surrounding the brand.
After her most recent contentious post, Selena Gomez was caught in an embarrassing post and delete situation on Instagram.
The singer of the song “Heart Wants What It Wants” used the social media platform where she is the most popular American musician to post a photo with a pal and the description, “Ice cream chillin’.”
Her 421 million followers were incensed by the seemingly harmless post after noticing she was sporting a Balenciaga shirt in the picture.
Her followers soon accused her of allegedly “endorsing child exploitation” by wearing something from the clothing line in the comments section.
One person wrote, “So it seems you’re okay with endorsing child exploitation by wearing your Balenciaga sweatshirt.”
Another person commented: “Promoting a company like Kim K. that is linked to pedophiles. This is both sad and incorrect. I believed you to be unique.
A third furiously typed, “You should not support BALENCIAGA. You were once the youngest UNICEF ambassador and have been a tremendous supporter for children.
A fourth statement was made in the meantime: “I once thought highly of you, but now I understand your true malevolent nature. Are you aware that this company supports pedophilia? I really, truly regret having trusted you.
After facing criticism for its disturbing child-bondage ad campaign last year, which the high-end brand acknowledged had a negative impact on its bottom line, it was reported that Balenciaga was looking into crisis management.
Following the criticism, reality star Kim Kardashian was believed to be “reevaluating” her relationship with the brand, which she had grown close to in recent months.
Kim issued a statement in which she described herself as “disgusted and outraged” by the advertisement.
“The horrific photos have left me scared as a mother of four. She stated in a statement posted to her Twitter account that “the protection of children must be held in the highest esteem and any attempts to normalize child abuse of any form should have no place in our society, period.
“Regarding my future with Balenciaga, I am presently reassessing our partnership on the basis of their willingness to take responsibility for an incident that should have never happened in the first place as well as the steps I expect them to take to safeguard youngsters.”
