FIBA World Cup 2023: Australia secure qualification for Paris 2024 Olympic men’s basketball competition

Australia will be present at the Paris 2024 men’s basketball tournament, it was confirmed today (30 August), after New Zealand lost to Greece in the final Group C game of the FIBA World Cup 2023.

The Boomers and Tall Blacks are the lone representatives from the Oceania region at this year’s World Cup, meaning that the two teams were in competition for a lone Olympic quota spot.

Australia had already secured thier passage to the next round of the FIBA World Cup after finishing second in Group E with a 2-1 record, but their Olympic future was only secured when New Zealand were beaten 83-74 by Greece. The Greek team advance to phase two of the World Cup out of Group C along with the USA.
