How to watch Boomers vs The World: Date, time, channel for Australia’s FIBA World Cup warm-up games

The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup is right around the corner, with the Australian Boomers hoping to improve on their historic bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.

Before Australia travels to Japan to begin its campaign, the Boomers will have to defend home court as it hosts the “Boomers vs The World” tournament. 

Across four days in August, the Australian team will take on three teams in Melbourne before traveling to Japan and playing one more warm-up game against a fellow international basketball powerhouse.

How to watch Boomers vs The World 

The Boomers will have five warm-up games before the actual FIBA World Cup begins — three on home soil in Melbourne and two in Japan, where they will begin their campaign. 

All three of the Boomers’ pre-World Cup games in Australia will be broadcast live and free on the 9 network and can be streamed via 9Now.

Who do the Boomers play before the World Cup?

The Boomers will play five games before the FIBA World Cup, hosting three of them in Melbourne in a round-robin style tournament. 

The three Boomers games held in Melbourne will be against Venezuela, Brazil and South Sudan, as all four nations prepare for their World Cup runs. 

Once concluded, the Boomers will then travel to Japan, where they will face gold medal contenders France in a rematch of the 2019 World Cup bronze medal match. They will conclude their preparations two days later against Georgia.

Australian Boomers roster for 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup 

Coming into the pre-World Cup games, the Boomers are sporting an extended roster of 13 players, with one more cut before the World Cup begins. 

The initial squad consisted of 18, with five players cut following the training camp in Cairns: Thon Maker, Sam Froling, Keanu Pinder, Matthew Dellavedova and Will McDowell-White.

When is the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup?

  • Dates: Aug. 25-Sept. 10
  • Locations: Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines

The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup will begin on Friday, Aug. 25. The group stage will take place in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines and run through Sept. 3, with the single-elimination knockout stage beginning on Sept. 5.

The tournament will conclude with the gold medal match on Sunday, Sept. 10.

Australian Boomers schedule at 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup

Australia will be in Group E with Germany, Finland and Japan. All of their first-round group stage games will be played in Okinawa, Japan.
