Former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly has said that West Indies’ ouster from ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is an eye-opener event for Caribbean Cricket Board. Sourav Ganguly also said that it was a shocking development in international cricket.

West Indies failed to grab a seat in the forthcoming ICC World Cup 2023 in India after failing to reach the final in ICC Knockout Qualifiers. West Indies lost to Scotland and Sri Lanka in the super six round. The defeats led to their ousters from the ODI World Cup.

Eye-Opener Event For West Indies Cricket: Sourav Ganguly

During an interview with RevSportz, former India skipper Sourav Ganguly was asked about his views on West Indies missing out on World Cup selection. The former BCCI chief said it is an eye-opener and shocking event for West Indies cricket. He also said that West Indies need to improve their quality of cricket.

“Shocking and an eye-opener for West Indies. It is important for them to look after their international cricket because a lot of their players just go away to play T20 cricket around the world. So, they will have to look at this aspect carefully. They will have to look at the quality, and that is very, very important”, Ganguly said.

This is the first time that the West Indies will not be part of the ODI World Cup tournament. West Indies were the maiden champions of the ICC tournament, winning the titles in 1975 and 1979 under skipper Clive Lloyd. They failed to grab a direct qualification after finishing below the top 8 positions in ICC team rankings last year.
