JJ Redick NBA Draft: Revisiting pick number, career stats & earnings for former Duke lottery selection

It hasn’t taken long for JJ Redick to establish himself as a force in the media world.

Since retiring from the NBA, Redick has founded a popular podcast, “The Old Man and the Three,” where he has interviewed some of the biggest names in basketball, from Joel Embiid and Stephen Curry to Victor Wembanyama. He’s also joined ESPN as an NBA analyst.

Not only did Redick broadcast some games during the season and make appearances on shows like “First Take” and “Get Up,” but he’ll be on hand Thursday for the 2023 NBA Draft.

That might have some fans wondering where Redick went in his own draft.

JJ Redick NBA draft

Following four seasons at Duke, the Magic selected Redick with the No. 11 pick in the 2006 NBA Draft.

In order, the 10 players selected ahead of Redick were: Andrea Bargnani, LaMarcus Aldridge, Adam Morrison, Tyrus Thomas, Shelden Williams, Brandon Roy, Randy Foye, Rudy Gay, Patrick O’Bryant and Mouhamed Sene.

Redick went on to have a 15-year career in the NBA that included stops with the Magic, Bucks, Clippers, 76ers, Pelicans and Mavericks. He made a total of 1,950 3-pointers, ranking him 18th all-time. Among every player from his draft, only three of them — LaMarcus Aldridge (2nd), Kyle Lowry (24th) and Paul Millsap (47th) — have more career win shares in the NBA.

Redick averaged a career-best 18.1 points while knocking down a career-high 3.2 3-pointers per game as a member of the 76ers in the 2018-19 season. He led the NBA in 3-point percentage as a member of the Clippers in the 2015-16 season, converting 47.5 percent of his perimeter attempts.

Redick announced his retirement from the NBA on Sept. 21, 2021.
