Former MVP Primed To Join Kevin Durant Sends Shivers Down NBA World’s Spine: “How Much Help Does KD Need?”

Several franchises around the league have made some significant changes to their rosters for the final stretch of the regular season. However, it seems like the Phoenix Suns are not done yet. Days after acquiring Kevin Durant, the Suns are now keeping tabs on a possible buyout to obtain a former MVP. If everything works out accordingly, the Suns might soon be signing their next deal with the New York Knicks. The reports have garnered mixed reactions from NBA fans due to various reasons.

The Brooklyn Nets’ decision to trade NBA superstar Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns came as shocking news to thousands of fans. KD’s former team dropped the bomb just days after they traded Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks. The Nets sent the Slim Reaper and T. J. Warren to the Suns in a blockbuster deal that landed them Cam Johnson, Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder, and draft compensation.

The Phoenix Suns have had a great run than most teams this season so far. Currently, the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference rankings, Kevin Durant’s inclusion to its roster has only increased the Suns’ chances of going all the way. However, it seems like the franchise is looking to further improve its odds by adding New York Knicks star guard Derrick Rose. According to Chris B Haynes of Bleacher Report, the Suns are reportedly looking out for an opportunity to buy out Derrick Rose.

Haynes clarified that the possibility of a buyout is less but not completely out of the question. If such a deal takes place, Rose might finally get the much-needed fresh start. The 2011 NBA MVP has completely fallen out of head coach Tom Thibodeau’s lineup since the beginning of January 2023 making the Knicks’ game against the Houston Rockets on December 31 Rose’s last appearance on the court.

Since then, the Knicks have taken part in 24 games, none of which included the No. 1 overall pick of the 2008 Draft. Rose is currently averaging 5.8 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists.

Fans are excited about the buyout possibility

There is no doubt that Derrick Rose is an excellent player. However, the Chicago native’s injury issues have limited his effectiveness on the court. Despite that, Rose has effectively improved his three-point shooting in the last couple of years. Most fans positively received the news of Rose possibly joining the Suns as they believed that the 34-year-old point guard deserved a championship title.

However, one user, like many others, expressed his annoyance with KD ‘needing’ a super team to win a ring with a comment that read, “How much help does KD need?” Below are a few more of the comments.

The 3x NBA All-Star might just be the missing piece that would fit perfectly with the Suns if his talents are strategically utilized. However, it all comes down to Rose’s availability and the Suns’ interest in the deal.
