Report: Pieters, Steele, Danny Lee joining LIV

Three more players are jumping ship to join LIV.

Thomas Pieters, Brendan Steele, and Danny Lee are signing on with the rival league, reports ESPN’s Mark Schlabach.

Pieters has excelled on the DP World Tour and sits 34th on the Official World Golf Ranking. The Belgian has six international wins under his belt, including last year’s HSBC Championship in the United Arab Emirates. He also represented Europe in the 2016 Ryder Cup and tied for 16th at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

Despite his resume, the PGA didn’t invite Pieters to this week’s stop at the Genesis Invitational, and the 31-year-old made his displeasure clear in a Wednesday morning tweet.

Steele has won three times on the PGA TOUR, including back-to-back Safeway Open titles in 2016 and 2017. The American ranks 122nd in the OWGR. Steele was expected to play at the Genesis Invitational this week but withdrew without specifying a reason.

Lee is ranked 259th in the world. The New Zealander won the Greenbrier Classic in 2015 by way of a four-man playoff, and he’s made over 303 starts on the TOUR, collecting over $15 million in earnings.

LIV is likely to make the new additions official when it unveils four new teams Monday. The Saudi-backed breakaway venture signed Mito Pereira and Sebastian Munoz earlier this week.
