A 2.5 per cent interest in the world’s best racehorse will go on sale

A 2.5 per cent interest in the world’s best racehorse is up for grabs as Lane’s End Farm and Keeneland have combined forces to offer the percentage in Flightline.

An undefeated son of Tapit who boasts a current official rating of 139, Flightline has earned nearly $1.4 million in prize-money and is being aimed at the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland on November 5. He will retire to stand at Lane’s End in Versailles, Kentucky after he finishes racing.

The stake will be auctioned at the start of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale on Monday, November 7 and those interested must register 24 hours in advance, having established credit with Keeneland, and met any additional requirements as Keeneland or Lane’s End may request.

The opportunity to buy in is offered by West Point Thoroughbreds, one of five ownership groups in Flightline, and is expected to be the only chance to buy into the four-year-old before he retires to stud.

An article for Racing Post members’ club subscribers on Flightline at the end of August, before he won the Pacific Classic by a ridiculous 19 and a half lengths, speculated that he could well be the most valuable horse to go to stud the world has ever seen.

“Flightline’s stud fee has yet to be determined,” said Bill Farish of Lane’s End, “but he will surely retire as one of the most valuable thoroughbred stallion prospects in recent memory.

“He’ll be an historic addition to the Lane’s End roster and the syndicate model is an exciting way for more people to participate in a sport that otherwise has a high barrier to entry.”

Shannon Arvin, president and CEO of Keeneland, said: “With these trailblazing firsts – a chance to own a portion of the world’s best racehorse and the opportunity to experience the world’s leading thoroughbred auction house in the Metaverse – Lane’s End and Keeneland are once again proving their commitment to evolving the horseracing industry and welcoming a new generation of fans to its timeless traditions.

“Keeneland has always found ways to innovate. But it’s always grounded in doing what is best for the sport, with the horses at the centre of it all.”

A decision on whether Flightline retires to stud or races on at five – even if just for the Pegasus World Cup in January – will be made after the Breeders’ Cup.
