Baaeed: will look to end his career unbeaten in the Champion Stakes

Unbeaten superstar Baaeed will attempt to end his career with a seventh successive Group 1 victory as he faces eight rivals in the Qipco Champion Stakes (4.00) at Ascot on Saturday.

The William Haggas-trained four-year-old will be ridden by Jim Crowley as connections go in search of an 11th win from 11 starts to bring down the curtain on Baaeed’s scintillating career.

His final assignment, and arguably his toughest, will see him battle against last year’s Derby and King George winner Adayar in a mouthwatering clash.

The son of Frankel made a winning reappearance at Doncaster last month and will attempt to end Baaeed’s unbeaten record for trainer Charlie Appleby. William Buick, who will be crowned champion jockey at Ascot, will once again ride the Godolphin-owned colt.

Brigadier Gerard winner Bay Bridge is also a contender to spoil the Baaeed party as he makes his first start since a disappointing fifth of six in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown in July.

Haggas, who still remains in contention to become champion trainer alongside Appleby, will also be represented by Group 2 winners Dubai Honour and My Prospero.

Last year’s Irish 2,000 Guineas hero Mac Swiney will take his chance in the Group 1 contest, as does Helvic Dream, who landed the Gold Cup at the Curragh in May 2021.

Aidan O’Brien, who last won this race in 2019 with Magical, sends over Stone Age to complete the field on nine.

Inspiral will attempt to win a fourth Group 1 as she heads a field of nine for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (3.20).

The daughter of Frankel has won six of her seven career starts, with her latest triumph coming in the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville in August.

Standing in her way is Woodbine Mile Stakes winner Modern Games and The Revenant, who won this renewal in 2020.

Jadoomi attempts to follow up his Boomerang Mile success and remain unbeaten this season for Simon and Ed Crisford, while the in-form Tempus represents Archie Watson.

El Drama, Raadobarg, Checkandchallenge and Bayside Boy complete the rest of the field.
