NBA Betting: The Best Picks to Lead the League in Rebounds

One of the big talking points of the NBA offseason is projecting which players are poised for exceptional or disappointing seasons. Who could break out with career-best seasons? Which players are past their prime and could be on the decline?

With the NBA regular season tipping off on October 24, it’s time to call our shots.

FanDuel Sportsbook is offering various NBA player stats odds for the 2023-24 season. This includes anything from the points-per-game leader for the 2023-24 season to player-specific props — such as if a player will average 24.0 points per game (PPG) or 8.0 assists per game (APG).

Let’s dig into the lines for stat leaders in the 2023-24 campaign, focusing today on who could lead the NBA in Rebounds.

Domantas Sabonis, Sacramento Kings (+310)

Domantas Sabonis played a crucial role in the Sacramento Kings‘ turnaround 2022-23 season, averaging 19.1 points per game (PPG), 12.3 rebounds per game (RPG), and 7.3 assists per game (APG). Sabonis is a long shot to win the MVP award, juiced to +7500 by FanDuel Sportsbook’s NBA award odds. Dominating the glass could help boost Sabonis’ chances at contending for the prized award.

After leading the Association in rebounds last season, Sabonis is the favorite to repeat (+310). He played a career-high 79 games while averaging 12.3 RPG (first). The three-time All-Star also ranked first with 21.6 rebound chances per game and sixth with 5.0 contested rebounds per game.

Sabonis has averaged at least 12.0 RPG in four consecutive seasons. The Kings’ star big man is in a prime position to repeat as the league’s Rebounding champion.

Nikola Jokic, Denver Nuggets (+380)

We’ve seen multiple dynamic frontcourt players emerge over the last few seasons. None are better than Nikola Jokic — the best basketball player on the planet.

Similar to Sabonis, Jokic is a stat-sheet-stuffer. The Denver Nuggets‘ center takes it a step further, as he ranked second with 678 total assists in the 2022-23 season. Of course, Jokic is a monster on the glass, too, averaging double-digit boards in three consecutive seasons.

After recording a career-high 13.8 RPG in the 2021-22 season, Jokic’s average dropped to 11.8 last season. This was still the second-best mark in the league, and Jokic finished third with 817 total rebounds. The two-time MVP winner still had plenty of rebounding opportunities, as well, averaging 18.5 rebound chances per game (fifth).

Jokic could be in store for a third MVP award (+430) if he leads the league in rebounding.

Anthony Davis, Los Angeles Lakers (+440)

The Los Angeles Lakers‘ Anthony Davis rounds out the top three favorites to lead the NBA in rebounds. Davis’ rebounding surged in the 2022-23 season at 12.5 RPG — a career-best average.

The former No. 1 pick touted impressive rebounding numbers across the board, including a league-best 6.8 contested rebounds per game. Davis also ranked second with 20.2 rebound chances per game.

However, as they say, the best ability is availability. Injuries have hindered Davis for years. He played in 56 games last season, which was his highest mark since the 2019-20 season. Davis has reached 60 games only once over his previous five seasons.

Davis touted exceptional rebounding stats last season, but if he’s not playing in enough games, becoming the king of the glass will be a tall task. His availability will also be key for aiding his MVP campaign (+3000).

Giannis Antetokounmpo (+600) and Rudy Gobert (+600) are tied for the fourth-shortest odds. Antetokounmpo was tied with Jokic for the second-best rebounding average last season at 11.8, and Gobert was the rebounding champion in the 2021-22 season.

Longshots

We’ve addressed the favorites to lead in rebounding, but who are some long shots with intriguing odds?

Joel Embiid has averaged at least 10.2 RPG in six consecutive seasons, yet he is +1000 to lead in rebounding. His 10.2 boards per game last season were the second-lowest mark of his career. However, the reigning MVP winner still ranked within the top 10 of rebound chances per game. Embiid is an intriguing choice, especially when looking at his odds.

We usually see several young players emerge with big statistical jumps. Walker Kessler (+1700) and Jalen Duren (+4400) are prime candidates in the rebounding department. Both players were not full-time starters in their rookie seasons. Kessler averaged 8.4 RPG, compared to Duren’s 8.9 RPG.

Both players are expected to be full-time starters in their second seasons. Kessler and Duren showed off their physicality by ranking in the top 13 in contested rebounds per game. Keep in mind both youngsters averaged under 25.5 minutes per game, ranking among the top three fewest minutes in the top 13 of contested rebounds per game.

Now that we’ve touched on the most likely contenders to lead in rebounding, what’s our final call? Who could be the best bets for the category?

Final Verdict

The rebounding crown could be a three-horse race between Sabonis, Jokic, and Davis. If he can improve his availability, Davis could be in a prime position to lead the category. He had a career-best season on the glass in the 2022-23 season, and the Lakers didn’t really add any notable rebounding help in the offseason. Los Angeles will continue to heavily rely on Davis in the rebounding department.

Sabonis, Jokic, and Antetokounmpo should be among the top rebounders, per usual. Keep an eye on Kessler and Duren; both players are capable of eclipsing 10.0 RPG, which could put them in contention for the rebounding title.
