The Detroit Red Wings face the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday night in an Eastern Conference matchup. Both teams enter the game 1-1-0 to start their seasons. The Red Wings have faced two top teams in the East: the New Jersey Devils and the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Wings lost 4-3 to the Devils then won their home opener 6-4 against the Lightning. The Blue Jackets should be the easiest matchup out of the three games.

Detroit’s early season showings

The acquisition of Alex DeBrincat has looked good so far, as the new addition of the Yzerplan. In Detroit, DeBrincat gets to be the guy. He’s on the top line with captain Dylan Larkin and is helping orchestrate the Wings powerplay. DeBrincat is off to a hot start with three goals and an assist through his first two contests.

On the other side of the faceoff dot is Columbus. Like the Red Wings, the Blue Jackets are hoping to see some improvement in the 2023-24 season. On Saturday, Boone Jenner scored a hat trick for the Blue Jackets in their 5-3 win over the Rangers. Jenner led the team in goals last year.

However, the name to watch is Patrik Laine tonight. The Finnish sniper sits at 199 career goals and will look to hit that 200 mark.
