Horse racing tips: James Boyle’s best bets for Day Four at the York Ebor Festival

Horse racing tips today:

For today’s Horse Racing Tips, our analyst James Boyle looks at the flat racing meeting at York with four selections now online.

As always, you’ll find the most up-to-date odds at these Horse Racing betting sites, but don’t sleep on our tipster’s predictions as those prices could soon be moved in by the betting public.

Odds stated are correct at the time of publishing, but check out today’s racecards for all the latest movements.

14:25 York – Chillhi – 1pt @ 28/1

Chillhi looks very underrated here. His peak figures are not far off the best of these and whilst some of them are likely to have more scope than he does, only four of his runs have been beyond a mile and just once has he had the chance to tackle this 1m 6f trip. Luck not coming his way on that occasion.

More often than not, he has suffered from sedate tempos up top and the one time they weren’t hanging about, he was racing at Chester. That track is too sharp to bring out the best in him and he caught the eye in no uncertain terms by running on strongly into third place late on.

It’s possible that one or two of these could be future Group horses lining up off very lenient marks but the handicapper is giving him a chance as well by dropping him to 84. It’s one he is definitely capable of defying in the right company and if he can hack it in this class, he’s not a 28/1 chance.

15:00 York – Al Suhail – 1pt @ 11/1

Al Suhail is very talented when the stars align and hopefully they might here. He started off the year in fine form, winning a couple of 7f contests in Dubai impressively, and was only caught close home back at 6f in the Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint. All performances that would put him in the mix today.

Following a few months off, he ran in the 6f Group 1 at Royal Ascot and was second home from those who raced in the near-side group. His track position ensured he had no chance of winning and for all that it was on the disappointing side figures-wise, there’s enough in place to excuse him.

He should be expected to step forward for that run and although a couple of months have passed since, he was being prepped for Glorious Goodwood before rain put paid to that. If he has been wound up for this at home and brings his peak level to the table, he can get involved.

15:35 York – Get Shirty – 1pt @ 20/1

Get Shirty has been a serious money-spinner for his connections and won four of his first five starts last season before finishing fifth in this race, doing best of those who were held up. Given that he’s now running off a 9lbs lower mark, it’s not hard to figure out how the current flat season has gone.

The answer, of course, is not well. But he was performing near his best in Dubai and Saudi Arabia in February, taking home a small fortune in the process, then bled in the Dubai Gold Cup. That set him back and his four runs on these shores since haven’t got near matching last season’s peak.

On the plus side, some hints of a return to form were on show in June and David O’Meara has had six weeks to get him right. It will take a major bounce back given how he performed in a C&D Group 3 last time but it’s not impossible and he’s enough of a price to take a punt on.

16:10 York – Lethal Levi – 2pts @ 12/1

Lethal Levi is a solid, tough sprinter and he has a cracking record having finished first or second on half of his 24 racecourse outings. Life is tougher these days thanks to his lofty rating but he’s definitely up to winning something like this off 96, and could get off the mark for the season.

He went within a neck of scoring off today’s rating in a similarly big-field C&D handicap in May, only touched off by a favourably treated Bielsa, and a replication of that would make him hard to beat. The pair were much the best as well and it’s a notable piece of form to bring to the table.

His sole visit to the track since yielded a good effort behind Aberama Gold, only beaten a few lengths despite not having as favourable a set of circumstances compared to his previous go, and he’s 15lbs better off with the winner. Cheekpieces may help and I think he’s a nice play at 12/1.
