Goodwood racing tips

1.50: Many A Star 14/1 each-way – 0.5pt

Goes well here and goes down to a very handy weight which could help him bounce back after two below par runs at Epsom and York.

Dropped down in grade to a Class 4 at York last time out and clearly didn’t suit the first time cheekpieces nor carrying among the most of the field.

He won this last year off just 2lb higher – and subsequently placed second a month later by just half a length.

His only other run here saw him finish a neck third back in April 2022 and it’s a great sign going into this with the first time tongue tie which could help him bounce back too.

2.25: Sweet William 9/4 – 1pt

Looks a great prospect for trainers John & Thady Gosden winning both starts in July by a wide margin.

Even more impressively when entering his first handicap race at Newbury and looks an unbeatable horse with his blinkers keeping him focused to the line.

Beat Tajanis by over four lengths at Doncaster and comfortable in a three length victory at Newbury to Novel Legend next time out and still has a great chance of improving on that, despite being upped 7lb.

3.00: Free Wind 6/5 (NAP) – 2pt

Top-rated mare of the field and should make all under Frankie Dettori for trainer John & Thady Gosden.

She has been remarkably consistent in her career – notably between a range of distances including 1m2f-1m6f, winning six of his nine races.

Notably though, was only three lengths off of Pyledriver last time out and could stand a great chance of improving further back up in trip for the first time since September 2021.

Wins include beating the likes of Rogue Millennium, Sea La Rosa, Golden Pass and Eshaada.

3.35: Spanish Star 20/1 each-way – 1pt

Often finishes at least in the top three in difficult handicaps from anywhere between 6f and 7f.

Has been in tremendous form this season stepping up on consecutive races including here in May, before winning again at Epsom at the Derby Festival.

He doesn’t mind softer ground even though he hasn’t been as prominent in recent testing conditions.

4.10: Thunder Ball 9/2 – 1pt

Thunder Ball was given a 16lb rise in the weights when he won by four lengths to Equatorial at Newbury, which in effect was a 20lb rise next time out as Billy Loughnane (3lb claimer) replaced regular rider Mohammed Tabti (7lb claimer) and yet still came within three lengths of the winner Docklands and placed fourth out of 29 runners.

Given another 3lb rise for that performance and in effect another 3lb rise with no claimer on board this time, but he looks as though he doesn’t get on with heavy ground, as declared a non-runner on August 2nd here. Still interesting though as soft should be within his wheelhouse based on his pedigree.

4.45: Individualism 11/4 – 0.5pt

Joe Fanning and Charlie Johnston do actually have a great strike-record at Goodwood, but haven’t been able to find too many winners.

So it would make sense that a big win would come in this Maiden Stakes after a promising debut from Individualism.

The colt placed just ^3/4l behind Cerulean Bay who was on his second run and second win. That form looks good and the Too Darn Hot colt has plenty of scope to improve on that here.
