Dream vs Wings Predictions, Picks, and Odds – WNBA May 20

Tags: wing dream wnba

The Atlanta Dream had a productive offseason following a woeful 14-22 campaign, but results may not be immediate. The Dallas Wings made a key signing as well, and combined with their superior roster, our WNBA betting picks prefer the home team today.

The Atlanta Dream and the Dallas Wings play their WNBA regular-season opener on Saturday afternoon at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.

The Dream are looking to bounce back after a dismal 14-22 season, and Atlanta ended up missing the postseason with three other teams.

The Wings posted an 18-18 mark last season en route to a playoff berth, although they fell two games to one against the Connecticut Sun in their first series.

Can the Dream get off on the right foot in the new season, putting their ugly 2022 in the rearview mirror, or will the Wings help continue the nightmare for Atlanta? We’ll discuss in our WNBA betting picks for Dream vs. Wings on Saturday, May 20.

Dream vs Wings best odds

Dream vs Wings picks and predictions

The Atlanta Dream look to take a step forward under head coach Tanisha Wright and general manager and executive vice president Dan Padover. Atlanta wasn’t that far away last season despite being eight games under .500. They were competitive in most games.

The team went out and added some experience with guard Allisha Gray, who played for the Dallas Wings last season. She posted 13.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game last season, and now she gets to face her former team in her old stomping grounds right out of the gate.

Atlanta’s Rhyne Howard begins her second season, and she has a bunch of young talent surrounding her with Laeticia Amihere, Leigha Brown, Naz Hillmon, Haley Jones and Aari McDonald. Monique Billings and Nia Coffey were signed, too, giving the Dream an injection of offense.

The Wings look to build upon their playoff run from a season again, and get to contend with old friend Gray right off the bat. Arike Ogunbowale was outstanding last season, posting 19.7 PPG to rank fourth in the WNBA. If Satou Sabally can stay healthy and return to her All-Star form from 2021, this could be a dangerous team.

In addition, Dallas added Natasha Howard, who dropped 15.1 PPG with 7.3 RPG last season with the New York Liberty. The Wings get a three-time WNBA champion, and the 2019 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year, too. Things are looking up for the Wings in the Metroplex.

While the Dream will be competitive, and much better this season, the Wings have a lot more depth from top to bottom, and Dallas is solid on both sides of the floor. The Wings will get off on the right foot, and all they need to do is win by two buckets to grab the cover.

Dream vs Wings spread and Over/Under analysis

The Dream ended up going 6-12 on the road last season, and it managed a 16-19-1 ATS mark overall. Despite all of that, Atlanta won two the three regular-season meetings, including the only visit to Dallas on May 7, 2022, a 66-59 road win and cover for the Dream.

In fact, Atlanta has covered five of the past six meetings, and seven of the past nine in the series. However, Atlanta was 2-7-1 ATS in the final 10 games to close out the season, and the Dream was just 1-6 ATS in the final seven tries against Western Conference foes.

The Wings were an impressive 21-14-1 ATS overall, however, they were just 1-2 ATS in the three meetings last season.

As far as the total is concerned, the Under has cashed in five consecutive meetings in this series, and each of the past four battles in Big D.

The Under is 17-8 in the past 25 tries against the Western Conference for the Dream, too. We should see a solid defensive battle, especially since the Wings look to be a lot more improved at that end of the floor with the addition of Howard from the Liberty.

We saw the offenses act a little sluggish in Friday’s opening action, with just one of the four WNBA games going Over. Look for a slower start from both of these teams, who usually hit the Under against each other. Couple the Under with the Wings for a solid parlay opportunity.
