Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have a lot of projects coming up, including but not limited to Harry’s memoir Spare, their joint Netflix docuseries, and, apparently (???), a virtual universe where they can connect with fans.

The Mirror reports that the Duke and Duchess of Sussexes are “in talks” with a technology company to get into the burgeoning world of virtual reality, and “the new deal could take many forms” including gaming and online forums where Meghan and Harry are digital avatars of themselves.

“Both Meghan and Harry believe they will an even greater ability to spread their message if they have a presence in the virtual world as well as the physical world,” a source said. “They’ve spoken to a variety of experts and the view is this is the next stage to take their brand truly global.”

An industry “insider” also added that “Harry and Meghan have already gone global. This would take them into a different stratosphere.”

Truly a lot to process here, but considering Meghan and Harry haven’t said anything to indicate they’re joining a virtual reality, take all this with a grain of salt. That said, celebrities in general are turning towards virtual audiences. Back in 2021, Variety reported that Justin Bieber had partnered with a virtual entertainment company called Wave to create a virtual concert, where his avatar performed “songs from his #1 album Justice before kicking off his 2022 Justice World Tour.”

At the time, Justin mused, “I am a big believer in Wave and love the platform as a new way for me to engage with my fans. I’m excited to be using this technology to bring people together and connect with fans from all over the world. I can’t wait for them to check out this interactive performance.”
