Verstappen made it eight wins from just ten contests two weeks ago in the British GP.

The Drivers’ Championship standings reflect Red Bull’s dominance this year and only Aston Martin and Mercedes have been able to get into the triple digits in the points so far with multiple podium finishes.

No other constructor from Red Bull has managed to find the winning formula so far though the British drivers Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton made great work to finish close up in second and third on their home GP.

The Hungarian GP at the Hungaroring presents new challenges with rain on Friday but a sunny weekend with temperatures rising.

DRS Detection Zone 1 is in place in sector three on turns 12, 13 and 14 as they represent the turns into the long straight before the speed trap.

Sector 1 has just three turns with the first, a right turn, coming at a tough angle after the straight before looping round to the left turn and a small right hand turn into another small straight into the larger second sector, which has eight turns in all.

The total length of the Hungaroring stands at 4.381km with a total of 70 laps.

Verstappen clearly goes well here too and retains the lap record set here in 2019 at 1:17.103.

But the Dutchman didn’t win here that year, instead Hamilton secured three straight victories around the Hungaroring between 2018 and 2020.

Before Esteban Ocon won for Alpine-Renault in 2021 – an unexpected victory from a driver who attained just 74 points that year.

Verstappen won last year though with the Brits Hamilton and George Russell on podium.

Hamilton has been edging his way closer into the F1 GP’s recently and there could be another decent place for him around a track he does so well at.

The standings haven’t changed after the British GP earlier this month and it looks as though Hamilton can keep climbing the rankings if he keeps up with his podium finishes seen in the UK, Canadian, Spain and Australia.

Perez is in danger of squandering second position to the Aston Martin and Mercedes if he continues to place out of the double digits points like he did this month in sixth.

But his consistency should level out in what could be an interesting battle for second and third come the end of the season as first place looks wrapped up already.

Lewis Hamilton podium finish

Hamilton has finished on the podium here multiple times but as noted above, has won three times in succession in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Coming second here last year was also a reasonable result as it was a similar story in the Championship where Verstappen was clear ahead of the rest of the drivers on points.

The Brit also finished on pole in 2021 before placing second behind Ocon and it shows just how well he handles this track with that level of consistency.

However, a bet each-way for him to win still feels risky at this stage with Red Bull the only car to win so far this season.
