Gabby Carter isn’t just an aesthetician; she is also an astrologer.

Mixing her two loves together, she offers Natal Chart Readings and forecast reading in her space at Karma Studio, along with spa services like manicures and waxing.

SaltWire got to sit down with her, and she went over how to read a natal chart with me, as well as explained some things about my own chart that I didn’t know.

Q: Can you introduce yourself and tell me a little bit about you?

A: I’m Gabby, I am an aesthetician and I also do Astrology. I’ve been studying it for a long time, but I’ve just only recently started to do natal chart readings for people.

Q: Those are two very opposite passions. Lets start with the aesthetics. How did you get into that?

A: (It’s) something that I’ve always kind of wanted to do. Growing up, my mom kind of got me interested in it. She went to NSCC for plumbing and was friends with a girl in the aesthetics course. She came home and told me about it, and I just thought that would be something I would love to do.

Q: How long have you been an aesthetician?

A: I graduated in 2017 from the Hair Design Centre in Halifax. I had some friends from Pictou County who were also aestheticians that I planned on working with, but timing just wasn’t right. One of them was able to put me in contact with Rhonda Stewart, the owner of Karma Studio, and she had space for me, so now here I am.

Q: What kind of services do you provide as an aesthetician?

A: Right now I don’t do any enhancements of any form. So, I don’t do lash extensions. I don’t do nail enhancements, but I do manicures and stuff with the natural nail. Pedicures as well. I do lash lifts and tints. That’s curling your natural lash as opposed to adding the extensions on. I do waxing, The only thing I don’t offer is Brazilian waxing, but otherwise I’ll wax pretty much anything. I also do eyebrow care, so tinting and shaping of the brows, and waxing. I’m always willing to learn more. I just started this business in May, so I wanted to start off small and not overwhelm myself, but if clients are looking for something specific, I can look into it and learn that skill.

Q: What goals do you have for your future self within your aesthetician business?

A: Eventually I do want to have my own place. It would be something where it wouldn’t be just mine. I want to collaborate with other people. I want to do it kind of differently from the norm too, having a space where people could trade service for service instead of service for money. Obviously, you can’t live without money because of the way this world works, but having the option of a sort of bartering system in place, as well.

Gabby Carter offers aesthetic services like lash lift and tinting, shown here. Having graduated from Hair Design Centre in Halifax, N.S. in 2017, she started her business at Karma Studio in Stellarton, N.S. last May and has been offering her clients spa and astrological services since. Contributed

Q: Let’s switch gears now and talk more about the astrology side of your business. How did you get into astrology?

A: Yeah, it is kind of one of those things that I’ve always been passively interested in for the longest time. Even as a kid, I’d always be looking at horoscopes and borrowing the astrology books from the school libraries. Eventually at a certain point in my life, I found my way deeper into it, and that’s where I started to uncover things about my own chart.

Q: Where do you find your resources? Or any suggestions for people looking for resources about astrology?

A: Connecting with people is so important because then you’re not just like reading stuff off the internet, you’re talking to real people and getting real perspectives and real guidance. If you have a very specific question, you can bounce it off them as opposed to trying to Google it and getting millions of results. Instagram has been my main source of connecting with people.

Q: What is the first thing someone needs to know to start learning about astrology?

A: Learn the zodiac signs first and then after that, learn the elements they relate to. There’s just so much more that you can learn from there. you’ll start finding your own path.

Q: How would you explain astrology to someone who may not believe in it?

A: What astrology is, is like patterns and recognizing patterns. There’s no magical thing about it. It’s just based on how the planets are moving and the certain patterns that people over thousands and thousands of years have collectively noticed happening. It’s just correlation. For example, in the wintertime when it’s snowing, it’s not snowing because it’s winter, but if it’s snowing outside, there’s a good chance that it is winter, or close to it.
