Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels still have the No. 1 recruiting class in the country for the 2024 cycle with three commitments. The class is led by five-star recruits Ian Jackson and Drake Powell, with four-star big man James Brown rounding it out.

While UNC can still add to the class, the 2025 cycle is starting to become the focus for the program. And one target they are after is five-star power forward Caleb Wilson.

The Atlanta native is a top-five prospect who is drawing significant interest from teams all over the country. While at the Under Armour Elite 24 game, Wilson talked about a few programs that are recruiting him and mentioned that UNC and Kentucky were the Blue Bloods ‘sticking out’ to him via Jamie Shaw of On3:

I’ll probably start looking more into schools for visits here in a bit. But on the blue blood side, Kentucky and UNC are sticking out. I like Tennessee a lot, Alabama, and Georgia Tech.”

Here is what he had to say about UNC specifically:

UNC: “My relationship with them has been good. They came to see me play a lot, and I see they have an interest in me. I’ve talked to every coach on their coaching staff, and I feel like we’re growing a bond. They play with a lot of freedom, and I’m the type of player that doesn’t need a set to get me going. That freedom they give, I think, will allow me to do a lot of the things that I do.”

There’s a long ways to go in this recruitment for the 2025 prospect but hearing him say that is good news.

Wilson does appear to be one of the top targets for UNC in the 2025 class and they could amp up the pursuit as the months go on.
