Two fearless Mexican warriors will finally face off for WBO super featherweight gold on August 12, as Emanuel Navarrete defends against Oscar Valdez. 

The fight airs on ESPN and ESPN+ in the U.S. and emanates from the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

Navarrete is a three-division champion, having held the WBO super bantamweight, featherweight, and super featherweight titles. He was supposed to face Valdez for the super featherweight title, but a Valdez injury led to him beating Liam Wilson via TKO in February. 

“Vaquero” is ready for what could be his biggest test to date, in a fight he hopes many talk about over the next few years.

“After so much time, this fight will finally take place,” Navarrete said. “Obviously I am 100% motivated because Valdez is still a big threat, and a fight against him could possibly be the start of a new Mexico vs. Mexico rivalry like the one between Barrera and Morales.”

Valdez has held the WBO featherweight and WBC super featherweight titles. He lost the latter belt against Shakur Stevenson in April 2022 and, after healing from his injury, beat Adam Lopez in May via unanimous decision. The 32-year-old is ready to put it all on the line against Navarrete. 

“Being a world champion is something that I always dreamed of,” Valdez said. “I already did it two times, and this is yet another opportunity. So, I’m excited and prepared both mentally and physically for this new opportunity. And I like that it’s between two Mexicans because it’s a win-win for Mexico. It’s a guaranteed war when there are two Mexicans in the ring.”
