Everything we know about Apple’s upcoming iPhone 15 event

We are almost days away from Apple’s splashy iPhone event. With rumours of the iPhone event taking place on September 13, and as is the case every year, predictions and leaks have been steady in the weeks leading up to the event. We know for sure the new iPhone 15 series will definitely be the star of the show, and we also know that Apple will be rolling out updates to iOS and macOS next month. What else could be there?

Here’s a roundup of everything Apple is expected to launch at its fall iPhone event next month including new Macs, Apple Watch Ultra 2 and more.

New iPhones

Like last year, this year the iPhone lineup will be divided into four models. The “standard” iPhone 15 models will succeed the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, while the “Pro” iPhone 15 models will replace the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. As expected, the high-end iPhone 15 models will reportedly feature some must-have features. The new iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will come with larger screens and less black border, which have caused assembly issues, according to The Information.

Both premium iPhones will feature titanium edges instead of stainless steel. A periscope lens for the iPhone 15 Pro Max for better optical zoom for the rear-facing camera is something that has been anticipated for a very long time. Apple is also reportedly ditching its proprietary Lightning charger with USB-C charging for new iPhone models. It means you don’t need to carry multiple chargers for different devices.

Apple is also considering increasing the price of its high-end iPhone Pros, according to a Bloomberg report. Since 2019, the company has sold its top-end iPhone Pro that starts in the US at $999 and a Max model with a bigger screen that starts at $1,099.

iPhone 15 features the following features:

* All models will have a USB-C charger
* A new A17 Bionic chip
* Larger screen, slimmer bezels on all models
* Dynamic Island on iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus
* Titanium finish on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
* A periscope lens for the iPhone 15 Pro Max

A new Apple Watch Ultra

Rumour has it that the Apple Watch Ultra will be getting an upgrade with a brand-new model, featuring a black titanium case and a faster S9 chip. Other than that, we don’t know much about the changes Apple is planning for this year’s Ultra model. Apple released the Apple Watch Ultra last year, the ruggedized, larger-screened, high-end smartwatch. Beyond Apple Watch Ultra 2, we’ve heard about the Series 9 which will come in two sizes, matching the current ones, that is 41mm and 45mm cases. Both new Apple Series 9 watches will feature the new S9 processor So far there aren’t many rumours suggesting the Series 9 will change much in design. Notably, there could be a new pink colour model option for the Series 9.

New iMac All-in-One

We’ve been hearing rumours of a new colourful iMac for a while now. The iMac is still running an M1 chip while the current Macs are running newer M-series processors. The next iMac will likely run on Apple’s rumoured M3 processor, which would be a step up from the M2 chip powering the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. Don’t expect any drastic design changes. Instead, the changes will be made under the hood.

New iPad mini 7

This rumour has recently started gaining steam but could totally make sense, since Apple hasn’t updated the iPad mini for two years. The 6th-generation iPad mini got a complete redesign with a bigger display, Touch ID on the power button, USB-C instead of Lightning, and an upgraded front camera. It’s unlikely Apple will drastically change the form and design of the iPad mini at this point. Apple Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported in December that the iPad mini’s “main selling point” would be the new processor.

iOS 17, macOS Sonoma, watchOS 10

At WWDC this year, Apple announced new software for iPhone, Apple Watch, and Mac computers. During the September event, Apple will likely share the rollout schedule for these new operating systems, which include a bunch of changes. iOS 17 include a new Standby mode, personalised contact posters and a brand new Live Transcription feature. The iPadOS 17, meanwhile, is getting new customisation options for the iPad lock screen similar to how iPhone users can customise their lock screens.
