2.30 Cartmel: Zumbi

James Moffat and Charlotte Jones will be disappointed if they are not among the winners at Cartmel on Friday and have a good chance of landing decent handicap chase.

Zumbi is one of several Cartmel specialists in the field but he might be the one with a little upside given he is new to steeplechasing and is now running over a trip much more suitable.

He kicked on and tried to draw the speed out of his rivals last time but was worn down; eventually finishing fourth. He steps up to 3m here and with normal improvement should go very well off a 3lb lower mark.

8.10 Newmarket: Pinafore

Pinafore won her maiden as a two-year-old in the style of a filly worth following in handicaps this season and she has done nothing at all wrong so far this term.

She reappeared on soft ground and ran well in a strong handicap at the Craven meeting on the Rowley Mile, finishing a good fourth behind two next-time-out winners.

She then won nicely at Ripon in a small field 0-95 and has only gone up 3lb for that. She drops back down to 0-85 grade here and should follow up with Wiliam Haggas and Tom Marquand in top form.

8.45 Newmarket: Peace Man

Is bred to be a sprinter, if anything, but clearly is a decent middle-distance handicapper who can complete a hat-trick of wins.

He was a rare big-priced Gosden winner in his maiden at Windsor but showed that was no fluke when following up as favourite in a handicap over the same course and distance last time, winning by three lengths from subsequent Sandown winner Paradias.

There are several potential improvers from other big yards here, but Peace Man looks to be on a roll and is proven on a range of different ground.
