GREENVILLE WINS LAKEVIEW MATCH PLAY: The Yellow Jackets took first place out of eight teams in the Navy Division at the Lakeview Match Play tournament at St. Ives on April 20 with a team score of 40. Sutton Schroeder was the champion of the first flight after going 3-0. Caleb Clements, Liam Dailey and Landon Mahar all claimed second place in the respective flights by going 2-1 on the day. Coen Vickery also went 2-1, placing third in his flight. Cole Drye took fourth in his flight. LAKEVIEW SECOND AT HOSTED MATCH PLAY TOURNAMENT: The Wildcats finished second out of eight teams in the Gold Division at their hosted Match Play tournament at St. Ives on April 20 with a team score of 39. Suttons Bay finished first in the division with 46 team points. No individual scores were submitted. NEXT: at St. Louis at 9 a.m. Monday.

CENTRAL MONTCALM EIGHTH AT LAKEVIEW MATCH PLAY: The Green Hornets placed eighth out of eight teams at the Lakeview Match Play tournament on April 20 with a team score of 11. No individual scores were submitted. NEXT: at St. Louis at 9 a.m. Monday.

IONIA FIFTH AT CHARLOTTE: The Bulldogs placed fifth out of six teams at the Charlotte CAAC-White jamboree on April 20 with a team score of 185. Lansing Catholic took the top spot with a team score of 164. Ryan Barna led the Bulldogs with a round of 44, followed by Brett Petersen (46), Hobbs Pinnow (46), Adam Kramer (49), Spencer Tooker (54) and Samuel Meyer (57). NEXT: at Lansing Sexton jamboree at noon today.

IONIA BOYS THIRD, GIRLS FOURTH AT HOSTED BULLDOG RELAYS: BOYS: The Bulldogs’ boys team placed third out of seven teams at their hosted Bulldog Relays on Friday with a team score of 80. Jenison won the meet with 126 team points. Charley Frost had the highest individual finish, taking second in the discus (127-1) while Wolton Sandborn took third in the high jump (5-8). Colyn Ciganick took fourth in the long jump (17-10.5) while Henry Castle took fourth in the shot put (39-6). The Bulldogs finished runner-up in multiple relays, including the 1,600-meter relay (Ciganick, Brent Starks, Tyson Evans, Jake Montgomery, 3:37.86), 3,200 relay (Ellis Yokom, Caleb Shortz, Montgomery, Evans, 8:43.95) and the 4,000-meter distance medley relay (Yokom, Victor Ledesma, Evans, Montgomery, 11:52.79). GIRLS: The Bulldogs’ girls team finished fourth out of seven teams at the Bulldog Relays on Friday with a team score of 64. Jenison led the field with 117 team points. Tess Griffith led the individual events, taking first in the high jump (4-8). Lilly Reams placed second in the discus (90-4) and fifth in the shot put (29-3.25) while Mimi Wegener was second in the pole vault (8-6). The Bulldogs highest relay finish was in the 400-meter relay, with the team of Ella Udell, Wegener, Hailey Fuentes and Griffith taking third place with a time of 56.56 seconds. NEXT: at Lansing Sexton quad at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

BELDING GIRLS FOURTH, BOYS SIXTH AT PEWAMO-WESTPHALIA: GIRLS: The Black Knights finished fourth of 10 teams at the Pewamo-Westphalia Invitational on April 21 with a team score of 170.5. Pewamo-Westphalia won the meet with a score of 329.5. Alayna Sims won the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.25. Sims was the anchor of the winning 400-meter relay team with Ellyson Wright, Taylor Manley and Hope Kanouse (53.14). Emmalee Springer won the pole vault with a personal record 10-0. Wright finished tied for third (8-6) in the pole vault. Springer added an eighth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (55.20). Mady Frisbie finished second in the shot put (30-8.25) while Lauren Antcliff (29-1.75) and Alanna Kent (27-4.5) finished sixth and eighth in the shot put, respectively. Frisbie added an eighth-place finish in the discus (82-5). Manley finished fourth in the 200 (28.89) while Mackenzie Zahm finished 10th in the 800 (2:43.79) and seventh in the 1,600 (5:55.33). Alison Rockburn picked up a fifth-place finish in the 100 hurdles (18.39) while the 800-meter relay team (Wright, Manley, Kanouse, Sims) finished third (1:55.31). BOYS: The Black Knights finished sixth of 10 teams with at Pewamo-Westphalia on Friday with a score of 106. Pewamo-Westphalia won the meet with a score of 296.5. Codey Manley had the best finish for the Knights on the track with a third-place finish in the 400 (53.55, a personal record). Jeryn Frisbie finished eighth in the 3,200 with a time of 11:11.38 while Hunter Bristow had 10th-place finishes in the 110 and 300 hurdles with times of 20.52 and 49.19, respectively. Belding also had a pair of third-place finishes in the 400-meter relay and 800 relay with Koden McNeil, Levi Linebaugh, Anthony Szubinski and Luke Prosser finishing in 45.75 and 1:36.91, respectively. Bristow finished fourth in the high jump (5-6) while McNeil finished fifth in the long jump (17-10.5). Jack Ward picked up a personal record in his fourth-place finish in the pole vault (9-6). NEXT: 2 p.m. today at the Central Montcalm Hornet Invitational.

TRI COUNTY BOYS SECOND, GIRLS EIGHTH AT ITHACA: BOYS: The Vikings’ boys team placed second out of 15 teams at the Ithaca invite on April 21 with a team score of 111. Fowler won the meet with 118.5 team points. Ramon Hernandez led the way for the Vikings, scoring a victory in the 3,200 meters (10:36.86) while also placing third in the 1,600 (4:50.95). Stuart Gould was victorious in the 200 (23.29) while Ian Boden took second in the 400 (53.24). Gavin Rykse also scored a second-place finish in the 800 (2:05.85) while Mike Stout added a second-place finish in the discus (120-9). Owen Behrenwald was third in the 100 (11.77) while Rykse added a fourth-place finish in the pole vault (10-6). The Vikings were dominant in the relays, taking first-place in the 400-meter relay (Behrenwald, Ethan Culver, Jayden Button, Gould, 45.13), 800 relay (Behrenwald, Button, Boden, Gould, 1:35.46) and 3,200 relay (Hernandez, Jaxon Lumbert, Rykse, Boden, 8:39.91). GIRLS: The Vikings’ girls team placed eighth out of 14 teams at the Ithaca invite with a team score of 30. Fowler won the meet with 165 team points. Keira VanTimmeren led the Vikings with a second-place finish in the 400 (1:03.43) while Brielle Gould took fifth in the shot put (27-4.5). Briana Cheatham took sixth in the 200 (29.76) while Natalie Schulz placed sixth in the 800 (2:49.61). The Vikings’ 1,600-meter relay team of Tamya Johnson, Tatyana Gomez, Schulz and VanTimmeren took third with a time of 4:35.12. NEXT: at Kent City invite at 1:30 p.m. today.

GIRLS TENNIS

KENOWA HILLS 6, GREENVILLE 2: The Yellow Jackets lost on the road at Kenowa Hills on April 20. No. 1 singles Emma Morano was victorious in three sets, defeating her opponent, 6-7 (1), 6-1, 12-10. The No. 3 doubles team of Isabelle Johnson and Kaydie Weber defeated their opponents in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. NEXT: home against Forest Hills Central at 4:15 p.m. Monday.

BASEBALL

YELLOW JACKETS, GREEN HORNETS SPLIT IN MUSKEGON: CENTRAL MONTCALM: Greenville and Central Montcalm split a doubleheader on April 21 in Muskegon. The Hornets won the opener, 7-5 and the Jackets won the nightcap, 6-5. Kade Olson led the Green Hornet offense in the first game with four hits and a RBI while scoring once. Cam Bracey knocked around two hits with a RBI and a run scored. Bracey struck out six in a five-inning start in the opener while allowing four runs on five hits and issuing three walks. Asher Johnson picked up the win with two strikeouts and a run on three hits in two innings of relief. In Friday’s nightcap, Olson knocked around two hits and scored a run to lead the offense. Hayden Train scored twice and drove in a run. Blake Guilford had two RBIs in the loss. Andrew Hardy and Gabe Lewis each had two hits, as well. Train started the game and allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits with six strikeouts against four walks in 3.2 innings. Asher Johnson was charged with the loss after yielding a walkoff Walk and allowing the one run on seven hits with five strikeouts against three walks in 3.2 innings of relief work. NEXT: 4:15 p.m. doubleheader today at Big Rapids. GREENVILLE: Logan Schuneman had two RBIs on three hits while scoring once to lead the Jacket offense. Charlie Braman knocked around two hits and scored once. Case Johnson, Tristen Vasel and Logan Mann each had a hit in the opener. Vasel gave up three runs on five hits and five walks against three strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work. Brady Savage was charged with the loss after allowing four runs (one earned) on five hits in 0.2 innings. In the second game, Johnson ripped five hits and scored once. Braman and Schuneman each had two hits and the rest of the Yellow Jacket lineup had one hit, totaling 15 hits, in the win. Logan Mann drew the walkoff walk in the eighth inning and started the game, allowing five runs (all unearned) on three hits with nine strikeouts against two walks in five innings. Kyler Witte picked up the win in the nightcap after striking out five and yielding five hits in three innings of relief shutout ball. NEXT: 4:15 p.m. doubleheader today at home against Sparta. 

VESTABURG SWEPT BY MPSH: The Wolverines dropped a pair of games at home against Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart on April 21 by scores of 31-2 and 15-0. In a three-inning first game, Jansen Scholer and Kolton Kilmer scored the two runs for the Wolverines. Luke Beard had two hits in the opener while Kilmer and Jakob Nickerson each notched a hit. In the second game, which also ended after three innings, Kilmer knocked around the lone hit for the Wolverines. NEXT: 4 p.m. Monday against Breckenridge at home. 

SOFTBALL

VESTABURG SWEPT BY MPSH: The Wolverines dropped two games on April 21 at home against Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart, 5-1 and 12-2. In the opener, Addi Neelis, Sasha Page and Ashlyn Mortensen each had a hit and Emma Myers had the team’s lone run. Neelis was charged with the loss after allowing all five runs (three earned) on nine hits with eight strikeouts against one walk in 6.1 innings of work. Page finished the game in the circle with a clean 0.2 innings. In the second game, Myers had two hits, a RBI and scored a run. Gwen Koutz scored the other Wolverine run in the nightcap. Page had a RBI hit and Neelis added a hit of her own. Lorelai Halgren knocked around a hit for the Wolverines, as well. Myers was charged with the loss in the second game after allowing three runs (all unearned) without a hit but issued two walks in 0.1 innings of work. Neelis pitched the remainder of the first inning, allowing an unearned run on one hit. Page finished the game, allowing nine runs (six earned) on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks in 3.2 innings of relief. NEXT: 4 p.m. doubleheader on Monday against Breckenridge at home.

CC-C SPLITS AT COLEMAN: The Eagles split their two road games at Coleman on April 21, losing game one, 10-0. Haeven Clark was charged with the loss, pitching the complete game, striking out two batters while walking four and allowing 13 hits in 4.2 innings. The Eagles had just one offensive hit in the game as Haedee Clark reached base on a single. The Eagles would bounce back to take game two, 14-13. Kaylee Byrnes was the hero of the game, nailing a double in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring two runs to secure the walkoff victory for the Eagles. Byrnes also had a team-high three walks in the game. Haven Reeder started the game, pitching six innings and striking out three batters while allowing three walks and 10 hits. Haeven Clark pitched one inning of relief, allowing two walks and three hits while striking out one batter. Jenna Berry led the offense with two singles, a triple and a team-high five RBIs. Calli Heleski had two hits and one RBI while Haeven Clark added two hits and a walk. Addison Bolen added a hit and a walk, driving in three runs. NEXT: home against Montabella at 4 p.m. Monday.

GIRLS SOCCER

BELDING 1-1 AT OVID-ELSIE TOURNAMENT: The Black Knights split two games at Friday’s Ovid-Elsie Invitational Tournament. Belding won the first game against Bath with a 2-1 penalty shootout victory before dropping its second game of the night to Ovid-Elsie, 4-0. No individual stats were submitted for either game. RECORD: 2-5-1. NEXT: 6 p.m. tonight against NorthPointe Christian at Rudness Field.
