Fifth + Broadway and AllianceBernstein (AB), a renowned global investment management and research organization, announced in May 2023 that a honeybee Hive would be installed on the green deck of the 501 Commerce building in collaboration with Alvéole. The urban honeybee hive was installed earlier this month, in preparation for National Bee Day on May 20. This hive exemplifies Fifth + Broadway and AllianceBernstein’s collaborative sustainability initiatives.

The construction of the urban honeybee hive at the Nashville development was recently led by Alvéole, a social beekeeping organization that puts hives on city rooftops. This honeybee habitat, sponsored by AllianceBernstein, provides a hive and a home for the country’s dwindling bee population within the downtown Nashville corridor.

“We are excited to announce this beehive partnership with Fifth + Broadway,” said Caroline Everett, AllianceBernstein’s Director of Corporate Responsibility. “This on-site AB beehive extends our commitment to sustainability beyond our four walls to the downtown Nashville community.”

Alvéole

In addition to the beehive exhibit, Alvéole has developed an online social presence for “all things bees” at Fifth + Broadway. MyHive is a website that displays every hive that Alvéole has established across the world. Each beehive location has its own page with information such as the number of hives and bees present, as well as the number of miles the bees travel in a day. The service also notifies followers when the beekeeper will be on site, allowing them to observe them working with the hives in real time. This platform enables the building’s residents to regularly monitor the hive while keeping an ongoing interest in hive activity, pollination, and honey harvesting.
