Gen Hosts Global Volunteer Day

Global Volunteer Day – On Tuesday, April 18, more than 550 Gen TM workers from across the world joined together to celebrate the company’s inaugural Volunteer Day. The service day, which took place at seven Gen sites in four countries and virtually, had a beneficial impact on almost 2,400 individuals and delivered health, hygiene, education, and environmental resources to communities across the world.

In India, Ireland, the Czech Republic, and the United States, Gen collaborated with 14 charitable groups to provide in-person service opportunities, as well as three virtual volunteer events. Employees together logged almost 900 hours of service in only one day.

Global Volunteer Day

Mentorship for Students and Job Seekers

Employees from around the organization helped students and job seekers develop their careers through in-person and virtual workshops. Employees in Prague, Mountain View, and Tempe collaborated with Nadani a dovednost, NPower, and ACCEL, respectively, to give support to students, new graduates, and professionals with impairments.

Putting Together Resources for Schools and Teachers

Team members were especially concerned about children’s educational needs, collaborating with groups such as the Happy Hope Foundation in Tempe, Arizona, and Plano, Texas, to create STEM education kits for approximately 200 children in local juvenile hospitals. Volunteers in Chennai, India, similarly gave numerous educational aids to youngsters in under-resourced rural schools, while those in Mountain View, California, collaborated with SCRAP to build 200 kits of art supplies out of repurposed materials.

Furthermore, Gen collaborated with Story Pirates, an organization that enables children in underserved places to express themselves artistically, to develop a website where workers from across the world could read children’s stories and provide constructive feedback. Our group examined over 250 children’s books.

 Local Environment Preservation and Beautification

Many employees took advantage of Volunteer Day to help protect and maintain the environment. Volunteers in Dublin assisted Flossie and the Beach Cleaners in clearing 70kgs of rubbish from a local beach, while volunteers in Prague assisted Nadace rodiny Vlkovch in collecting debris, raking leaves, and renewing the organization’s garden.

Helping Those in Need

Other programs assisted underprivileged groups in meeting their basic food and clothing needs. Employees in Prague and Brno contributed over 25 bags of clothes and collaborated with Clean the World to build 1,700 hygiene kits. Employees from the Tempe location also assisted with the packing of 1,728 cartons of food at St. Mary’s Food Bank in Phoenix.
