IRCC Approves the Pearson Test of English (PTE)

IRCC Approves Pearson Test of English

Applicants for Canadian immigration can also take the Pearson Test of English (PTE), which has been approved by the IRCC as a designated language test. PTE joins IELTS and CELPIP as one of three English language tests. The newly designated test allows candidates to demonstrate their English language proficiency to IRCC.

PTE is an English language test that students and immigration applicants can take to demonstrate their English proficiency. It is one of the most widely accepted English language tests in the world. The test determines the score using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and provides faster results.

The IRCC does not require any specific test for Canadian immigration. All three tests are equally effective at evaluating English language skills. All three tests assess applicants’ core abilities (listening, reading, writing, and speaking). For a valid application, the developmental language test results must be within two years.

PTE meets the requirements of Canadian language standards, according to IRCC. TEF Canada and TCF Canada are two other French language tests that have been approved by IRCC.

The ability to communicate in English or French allows economic-classic candidates to contribute economically in Canada. According to Statistics Canada, excellent English/French language proficiency is necessary for economic integration in Canada.

The most popular economic class immigration pathways in Canada are the Provincial Nominee Program and Express Entry. Applicants from other economic classes must also take the IRCC-approved language test. The English test is also required for the IRCC Pilot Programs, the Atlantic Immigration Program, and the Quebec Skilled Worker Program.

Language proficiency is not required for spousal sponsorship, temporary immigration, or International Experience Canada.

Under any pathway, candidates must take the English test and achieve the minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB). For example, the Federal Skilled Worker Program requires a CLB of at least 7 across all skills (writing, reading, listening, and speaking). Some immigration programmes demand a CLB of 4. CLB levels range from 4 (poor) to 10 (excellent) (excellent).

Candidates for the Express Entry and Express of Interest programmes will earn more points based on their CLH score. Any candidate who does not meet the minimum CLB score is ineligible for Canadian immigration.
