MS MR return from seven year hiatus to announce their disbanding

The independent release of “Saturn Return” also features a cover of Harvey Danger’s “Flagpole Sitta” and celebrates the ten year anniversary of their debut album, Secondhand Rapture.

“When we realised we were coming up on the ten-year anniversary of our first album, “Secondhand Rapture,” we knew we wanted to do SOMETHING. It felt like the right time to finally bring the Band to a formal end while also celebrating and thanking our fans and each other for such an exciting and meaningful time in our lives,” the band say.

With an enormous amount of gratitude, we’re ready to move on from the MS MR project – we’ve each developed into new people with expanded ambitions, interests and tastes. But we’re excited and committed to continuing to be a part of one another’s personal and creative lives. So while this is the end of the band, it’s not the end of our collaboration on each other’s work as LPX and alexmaax. Our new, final single “Saturn Return” is a promise of that,” they continue. “We hope this last musical offering as MS MR gives you the sense of joy and closure it brought us. Thank you for letting us into your lives – it changed the course of ours forever.”

“We initially intended to rework something from that record or an old demo from that era. But as we started working, we found ourselves caught up in the joy of reuniting as friends, reveling in the opportunity to share how much we had grown as individuals and artists, and finding an even greater appreciation for what we had created and achieved during our heyday,” they continue.

“Ultimately, it felt more authentic and exciting to create something new that would reflect and celebrate exactly that. It was surprisingly effortless and cathartic to fall back into creative synergy with one another, even after all this time. We found the elements that defined our signature sound remained intact but felt deepened, honed and refreshed by the experience we’ve gained since we started making music together in 2010.

Comprised of Lizzy Plapinger and Max Hershenow, MS MR made global waves with their albums Secondhand Rapture, which was released in 2012, as well as it’s 2015 follow-up, How Does It Feel. Their infectious and electrifying live performances led to multiple sold-out headline tours around the globe, as well as international festival slots like the main stage at Coachella, Glastonbury, and Splendour in the Grass. MS MR’s music was used extensively in TV and film including Game of Thrones and the Oscar award-winning The Room and their song “Dark Doo Wop” was sampled by Snoop Dogg on “Daddy” of his latest record.
