THE POOR Release Highly Anticipated New album ‘High Price Deed’

Days out from their European tour, Aussie rockers The Poor have dropped their long- awaited new album ‘High Price Deed’ through Reckless Records. As Lead singer Anthony (“Skenie”) Skene explains, the band’s music on this long player is “Heavy, honest, tight rock with an energy that demands attention!  Especially live!”

When asked to sum up the album in one sentence, he replies “It was worth the wait.”

The record was completed over six months and features their new single ‘Lover’, the follow up to ‘Let Me Go’, ‘Cry Out’ and ‘Payback’s A Bitch’.  Skenie said today, “All the songs are freshly written except for ‘Love Shot’ which is an old song from our first EP ‘Rude, Crude & Tattooed”.

On the story behind the album title, he says, “We had many ideas for the album name that we threw around but none of them really stuck. ‘High Price Deed’ is a line out of ‘Love Shot’ and when it was mentioned we all just loved it”.

When asked how the band copied their raw, live sound onto the record, Skenie answers, We did it our way and really didn’t settle for anything less than our sound, while also experimenting in the studio”.

After reviewing the record, Kris Peters from Heavy Mag said, “This album is a more rounded collaboration of the entire band which elevates the tracks beyond the normal meat and potatoes style of Australian rock that The Poor have gradually been cornered into. You can hear – make that feel – each instrument, with the combined output allowing Skenie’s vocals to stand out even more.

…Turn ‘High Price Deed’ up to 11 and rock out kids. This is Aussie rock at its absolute finest.” Listen to the album here

‘Lover’ is the fourth track lifted from the album and the idea for the clip was one that Skenie had planned from the moment he wrote the song.  “It was shot at a friends place on the gold coast and got all our friends and family involved and had one party of a day, Aussie style. It was fun. Matt Hooker once again on the camera and edited by myself and Daniel Cox”.

Following a successful tour overseas with Rose Tattoo in 2022, the band are set to return to Europe with a huge run of dates to the end of March in support of this new album and have one Australian show date scheduled for February 18 at the Wallaby Hotel in Mudgeeraba.

The album comprises of The Poor’s first new music in 12 years, with their back catalogue now available on digital platforms. Time has not wearied this band. Still delivering their unabashed four-on-the-floor rock, these songs herald a new era for The Poor, headed up by lead guitarist Daniels Cox’s premiere songwriting collaboration with the band.

ABOUT THE POOR

The Poor started out playing the pub circuit in Darwin nearly 3 decades ago. The plan was simple -, hard rockin’ hard drinkin’ and world domination. In 1992 the band cut their debut release, the EP Rude, Crude & Tattooed, produced by Rick Brewster and Bob Spencer from The Angels and from the opening line you knew it was going to be something great; Aussie pub rock, in your face, no bullshit, straight to the point, rock’n’f%&k’n’roll!

In mid 1993, the band recorded their debut album, Who Cares which spawned their most notable single, “More Wine Waiter Please”. An unrelenting couple of decades followed where they toured relentlessly, drank hard and rocked harder touring Australia, Europe and Japan, sharing stages with the likes of Suicidal Tendencies, The Scorpions, Alice In Chains and Van Halen. In 2000 the band went into hibernation until an invitation to tour with WASP was too good to refuse. It didn’t take long for them to get back into the rock’n’roll groove they cut so deeply in previous years. Round 1and Round 2 albums followed in 2009 and 2010 respectively.

After 12 years of touring their supercharged ‘NO BS Aussie Rock’ show with local and International rock bands including AC/DC, The Screaming Jets, Rose Tattoo and the Angels, cut to the present day and The Poor are ready to release new music on their old and new fans. Original members Anthony (Skenie) Skene, Matt Whitby and (almost original drummer) Gavin Hansen are joined by relative newcomer and lead guitarist Daniel Cox.
