Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics

The fifth day of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing was Wednesday. Here’s what you need to know if you’re just getting caught up on the action, which took place mostly at the crack of dawn in the United States:

A Summary of United States 2022 Winter Olympics

Mikaela Shiffrin’s Olympic tragedy began on Wednesday as she failed to finish her second consecutive event in Beijing.

Shiffrin also failed to finish her giant slalom run on Monday, leaving her with nothing but heartbreak in her top two disciplines. Still Mikaela Shiffrin will compete in the super-G.

Shaun White’s Olympic-winning lap was almost complete before it began. The three-time Olympic gold medalist tumbled on his first men’s halfpipe run in his fifth and final Games, putting his Beijing future in jeopardy. However, the “Flying Tomato” rebounded in his second effort, posting an 86.25, good enough to progress him to the event final on Thursday.

Chloe Kim wins her second gold medal in a row on the halfpipe. Kelly Curtis breaks ground as a Black American skeleton racer.

In the mixed team ski jumping event, Sara Takanashi’s huge 103-meter performance appeared to be ready to propel Japan into medal contention. Takanashi, on the other hand, was disqualified because her costume was two millimeters too large around her thighs.

The sadness of the Japanese competitor was shared by teams from Austria, Norway, and Germany, who were all disqualified due to suit breaches. Two centimeters, to be precise. That’s the difference between Olympic gold and a heartbreaking disqualification.

Lindsey Jacobellis could see the finish line once again. She had been the most dominant athlete in the snowboard cross racing sport for many years, and she had done it several times at the Olympics. On Wednesday, the 36-year-old finally won the gold medal she’d been after since her Turin defeat, outpacing the competition and giving the United States its first gold medal in Beijing.

Therese Johaug of Norway has won her second cross-country gold medal at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, adding the women’s 10km classic to her 7.5km + 7.5km Skiathlon gold on February 5.

Kamila Valieva, 15, becomes the first woman in Olympic history to land a quadruple leap.

On the third day of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games, Zhu Yi collapses at Capital Indoor Stadium.

A quick look at Beijing 2022, a game-changer for gender equality:

– A record 45% of women

– 2 new women’s events

– 4 new mixed-gender events

– 53% of events with female athletes (Upwards arrow47%)

– Final Saturday with 9h of women’s events (5h in 2018)

– 3 teams have women for 1st time

The medals from the figure skating team competition have remained on the ice for more than 48 hours. A representative for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) says the medal ceremony has been postponed due to “legal consultation” over a “growing concern.”

Athletes have been slamming Olympic organizers with concerns about freezing conditions and quarantine regulations coming in.

Conclusion

Although it might seem the Olympic organizers are having some trouble with the athletes, it won’t be long since these problems are going to be solved. So let’s hope for the best for our American Team and always God Bless America.
