How important is Azure Industrial IoT?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Azure Industrial IoT is a suite of Azure cloud microservices and Azure IoT Edge modules that integrate the power of the cloud into industrial and manufacturing shop floors. It provides services like PaaS that support open-source SDKs and multiple protocols.

The suit is built on the principle that new solutions and data can interoperate through industry standards and prevent vendor lock-in. The benefit of using Azure Industrial IoT is its ability to allow plant operators to discover OPC UA-enabled servicers in a factory network and register them in the Azure IoT Hub.

The reception of alerts and alarms enabled by Azure IIoT allows for a reaction to them in real-time. IoT Hub supports the data collected from industrial and other various business resources to be stored securely by performing business and efficiency analyses and generating reports from it.

Microsoft Azure services and tools can support processing combined data, such as Azure Stream Analytics, or visualizing it in your Business Intelligence (BI) tool.

The various solutions by Azure Industrial IoT allow industrial efficiency and enable organizations to implement Industry 4.0:

  • Various connected factory units, field services, centrally managed manufacturing, and real-time responses to customer feedback and market conditions are enabled by Azure IoT. The manufacturing processes are simplified and modernized for faster time to market, performing predictive maintenance, and obtaining the right insights for better decision-making.
  • Industrial IoT solutions are built that are compatible with industrial devices and systems through OPC UA standards. Data are contextualized with powerful visualizations.
  • Azure Time series analytics, IoT Edge, IoT security, and more are connected with legacy machines, suppliers, customers, factories, and the industry workforce with a centralized global ecosystem.
  • The next-generation IoT spatial intelligence solutions are built by replicating real physical spaces and creating more connected environments.
  • Cloud intelligence can be deployed directly on IoT devices to run in real-time and analyze data locally, reducing the cost and bandwidth required to send data to the cloud.
  • Azure Industrial IoT is built with the Interoperability principle, providing new solutions and data through industry standards and preventing vendor lock-in. Hence, manufacturers can avoid being locked into a single vendor and can use open-source SDKs and other multiple protocols.
  • Azure Defender for IoT and Azure Sphere allow organizations built-in security for their assets. It ensures IoT-connected devices are updated and secured for life.
  • The time to market products and services can be reduced by investing in Azure IoT and connecting, monitoring, and controlling all IoT-enabled products. It also supports gaining insights to make present- and future-oriented business decisions.

The Azure IoT Central acting as the required platform enabled the rapid development and maintenance of high-performing IoT solutions.
