The Blues had made a switch for Caicedo their priority, seeing several offers rejected by Brighton in the early stages of the market. The negotiations dragged on, with a figure around the £100million mark quoted as the valuation set by the Seagulls when it came to a potential sale.

That valuation was met by the west Londoners, but it seemed too late as Liverpool joined the race with a £110million offer accepted in a huge hijack. That came after months of chasing Lavia without reaching an agreement at a lower asking price, causing many to question the decision.

While Klopp’s side had agreed a deal on the club side, the player seemed to have his heart set on a move to Stamford Bridge, stalling for a response. That was eventually settled in a move understands is worth up to £115million if all the add-ons are achieved

The Merseyside team faced a setback as Chelsea also secured Lavia, their alternative choice, in a £58 million deal confirmed by seeking midfield enhancement, Liverpool turned to Endo from Stuttgart. When questioned about the move in his pre-match press briefing, Klopp humorously alluded to the missed signings, stating, “I’m delighted to announce the agreement with both the player and the club. Being German, I follow Bundesliga closely; I’ve known him since his Stuttgart days and admired him from the outset. Last week posed challenges. You can either dwell on the issue or seek solutions.”

Describing Endo, Klopp remarked, “He’s an excellent footballer, 5ft 10 but leaps impressively, excels in aerial play and defense overall. Tactically astute and intelligent. Proficient footballer with a strong passion and determination.” On the topic of missing out on Lavia and Caicedo, Klopp further commented, “There’s not much to say. Transfer dealings work this way. Sometimes they pan out, sometimes they don’t.”
