Daryl Johnston was born on February 10, 1963, in Youngstown, Ohio. Johnston was the middle child of five and was raised on his family’s farm. When Johnston was six years old, his family moved to Lewiston, New York. Johnston’s father, Bob, was a high school football coach, and his mother, Joan, was a homemaker.

Daryl Johnston was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2nd round of the 1988 NFL Draft. He played his entire career for the Cowboys, retiring after the 1999 season.

Johnston was a member of the Triplets along with wide receiver Michael Irvin and running back Emmitt Smith. He was also a member of the 1992 and 1993 Super Bowl Champion Cowboys teams.

In his 12 seasons with the Cowboys, Johnston had 490 catches for 5,812 yards and 46 touchdowns.

Daryl Johnston’s NFL career began when he was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2nd round of the 1988 NFL Draft. He played his entire 11-year career with the Cowboys, and was a member of their Super Bowl XXVII and Super Bowl XXX winning teams. He retired after the 1999 season.

In his 11 NFL seasons, Johnston appeared in 155 games (145 starts), rushing for 2,349 yards and catching 321 passes for 2,492 yards. He was selected to two Pro Bowls, in 1991 and 1993.

Daryl Johnston’s philanthropic work began in 1992 with the formation of the Assist International Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity. The Foundation was formed to provide assistance to underprivileged children around the world. In its first year, the Foundation provided Christmas gifts to children in Romania and also sponsored a medical team that provided care for children in Guatemala.

In 1993, the Foundation expanded its activities by sponsoring summer camps for inner-city kids in Dallas, TX. The following year, the Foundation sponsored its first team of athletes to compete in the Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Hawaii. Since then, the Foundation has sponsored several teams of athletes to compete in various triathlons and other endurance events around the world.

In 1995, the Foundation began sponsoring a scholarship program for deserving high school students. To date, the Foundation has awarded over $1 million in scholarships to students attending colleges and universities across the United States.

In 1997, Johnston founded The Artie Owen Jr. Memorial Fund, a fund that provides financial assistance to families of fallen firefighters and police officers in Dallas, TX. The Artie Owen Jr. Memorial Fund has raised over $2 million since its inception.

In 2002, Johnston teamed up with former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer to create The Fellowship of Christian Athletes Quarterback Club. The Quarterback Club is a network of NFL quarterbacks who use their platform to share their faith with young people around the country. To date, The Quarterback Club has raised over $1 million for young people in need through various initiatives like scholarships, summer camps, and mentorship programs
