Early Life
Mark Fischbach was born on June 28, 1989, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Growing up, Mark had a lot of interest in video games, especially horror games. Many of his early Let’s Play videos were of horror games. He also had an interest in filmmaking and editing. In high school, he started making short films with friends, which is where he developed his editing skills.
After graduating high school, Mark attended the University of Cincinnati but dropped out after one year to pursue a career in YouTube full time.
Career
Markiplier began his YouTube career in 2012, creating Let’s Play videos of indie horror games. Some of his first games include Cry of Fear, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and Slender: The Arrival. He gained a large following for his reaction videos and comedic commentary. His channel reached 1 million subscribers in July 2012 and 5 million in December 2012. As of January 2019, his channel has over 23 million subscribers and over 10 billion total views. Markiplier has won various awards throughout his career. In 2016, he was nominated for Game Award’s “Trending Gamer”. In 2017, he was nominated for the Shorty Award in Gaming.

Mark Edward Fischbach (born June 28, 1989), known online as Markiplier, is an American YouTube personality, comedian,, and philanthropist. Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, he began his career in Cincinnati, Ohio, and is currently based in Los Angeles, California.
Fischbach first joined YouTube on March 5, 2012, creating content centered around the video game charity speedrun marathon Games Done Quick; he has since participated in several other marathons. His channel has amassed over 23 million subscribers[1] and over 8 billion total video views as of September 2020. In 2015, he was ranked #9 on New Media Rockstars Top 100 Channels list.[2] In 2016 and 2017 respectively, he was ranked the 24th and 4th most popular channel on YouTube by SocialBlade.[3][4] As of July 2020, Fischbach’s channel ranks as the 14th most-subscribed channel on YouTube with 24 million subscribers.
On March 20, 2019 Fischbach announced that he would be donating $500k to the children’s cancer research organization St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.[5] On June 19th 2020 Markiplier announced on Twitter that due to the COVID-19 pandemic he would be selling his Los Angeles home and moving elsewhere however the location of his new home has not yet been revealed.
