Norman Foster Institute Opens Applications for 2025 Sustainable Cities Program in Africa

The renowned Norman Foster Institute is now accepting applications for its 2025 Programme on Sustainable Cities, focused on developing urban solutions for African metropolises. The intensive 36-week program, led by architectural legend Norman Foster and MIT’s Kent Larson, combines classroom learning with immersive fieldwork across three pilot cities in Africa.

Divided into three stages – Foundations, Transformations, and Interventions – participants will tackle diverse urban challenges using cutting-edge tools like AI, AR, and data analytics. They will work closely with local stakeholders to devise evidence-based strategies for making cities more sustainable and livable.

“Africa presents one of the greatest opportunities for pioneering urban development models that can inspire cities globally,” said Foster. “We’re excited to leverage our global expertise to empower the next generation of city-shapers.”

The program culminates with scholars presenting their proposals directly to municipal leaders. Graduates earn a joint master’s degree from the Institute and Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.

Applications are open until June 15th for scholars across disciplines like architecture, engineering, policy, and more. Need-based scholarships are available.
